honestly at this point, no one knows

there isn't a single reason as to how keeping byron would benefit this team. the lakers FO is simply living in another world, oblivious to all that is happening

Do we have any picks next year that would make it worthwhile to tank at all?

^^ That's the million dollar question. None of us has a clue what these numbskulls are thinking. Whatever it is, it's not looking good about now. We'll miss out on Thibs, miss out on Brooks . . . and possibly even miss out on Luke! Shouldn't we at least be talking to him since the Kings and Knicks are?

So Kevin Ollie/Luke Walton to save us now? Anybody but Byron please!

    Thanks @Kou !

The short answer is: if we lose the pick this summer, then we get it guaranteed next summer. If we get the pick this summer, then we're back to the Top 3 protection next summer.

Wow, maybe the Lakers are waiting for the lottery draw to figure out if they have the pick? If not, tank is back on with Byron?

with or without byron, i'm pretty sure the tank is on, philly style (from the get go) if the lakers lose the pick.

contrary to mitch's statements, they aren't in much better a position this year than last. the only thing that has changed is there's no longer weirdness about kobe's situation, which was definitely an issue in the past two years, imo. still, no big name FA sees this roster and thinks: we're going to competitive next year. only way that happens is if the lakers make a trade for a star, and the only that happens is with the pick.

I've pondered this in the Byron thread as well. As much as I want us to move forward with firing him and getting a better coach, it's clear that isn't happening at this time. It's probably the last piece of the puzzle to them. They want to see what happens with the pick first, if they get to keep it and then where it lands and who they may or not trade it for, then free agency to see if they can actually get some top tier FA's or if they strike out again. My guess is they will wait to find all of that out. In the meantime they seem to be locked in on Luke, because they are letting Thibs and Brooks get away.

Yeah they're either keeping Byron or know of some certain somebody that doesn't have a job yet. That's really all there is to it. If there were rumors of Luke taking that Kings job and we STILL didn't see movement in the FO, then I think it might be time to give up on them.

What is our FO waiting for? BS had two of the worst seasons in lakers history... Even D'Antoni had less to work with and won more games than Byron. Sorry, theres not much else to consider

Seriously. I couldn't stand 'Antoni, but he is better coach than B0ron, it's not debatable, everyone who said as much this season was correct. I'm beginning to wonder if the narrative that the Lakers let him resign to save face because they were going to fire him is even true. They may have been dumb/cheap enough to stick with him another year too, but he wanted no part of it. 'Antoni had to deal with some seriously bad injuries to our team, and B0ron had that excuse last year too. But this year, we hardly had any injuries at all, we had arguably a better roster, and we were worse. What's B0ron's excuse this year? And I'm sorry, the Kobe farewell tour isn't a legit excuse.

Scott Brooks is a fine coach, but 7 mil per year? Talk about desperation for Durant.

I am getting the sinking feeling we have another year of Boron upon us.
