his size is going to limit him at sg, and he's not a true pg. this usually means bench player. still, he's really good and has developed quite a bit already, so i'm not going to doubt his ability to further improve. his three point shot has improved dramatically to my eye, for example. long term, he could be a really good sixth man, like the kind that changes games for a contending team. that's nothing to sneeze at. so, i don't think the lakers need to sell high. pay him market value and be happy you have a young player who could already be part of an 8-man rotation on a winning team.
We're starved for talent. We're an 11-wn team, and I don't know if we land any big fish in this Free Agency. So, as you suggested, I'd sign him this summer; as it stands right now, let him continue building chemistry with D-LO and Jules.
Per ESPN, Jordan and Beal are the same in height (Each listed at 6'5"). Beal outweighs Jordan by about 13 lbs though (Beal = 207, Jordan = 194).
Clarkson is definitely a string bean. He's never going to be a big guy, but he can continue to develop wiry strength as he gets older. What strikes me between the two: Clarkson is a little more than a year older.
Yeah I found that interesting as well. While Jordan's lack of strength and relative age have many feeling he's somewhat at his developmental peak, which is a high end 6th man, I still feel he has the potential for more growth. The best example I could cite is to compare him to a guy like CJ McCollum. Their bodies are very similar, and CJ is actually 1 year older than Jordan. CJ has made tremendous strides this year, all while playing next to a ball dominant point guard in Lillard. IMO, that leaves hope for Jordan as a perennial starting 2-guard in this league. Of course, as many have said, he'd need to improve his defense for this to happen.
I think he's reached his peak only because we've now been through most of a season and I've seen no growth from him defensively. If anything, I've seen regression on that end. He gets caught on screens easily, his footwork is bad, he falls asleep a lot when he's on the weak side. I don't know what his mental block is defensively right now, but it's bad. I agree he can develop more, but he, D'Angelo, and Julius need to basically be attached at the hip this summer. I hope they spend the entire summer in LA at the practice facility working together to get an idea of how best to play with each other.
I definitely think its too early to say JC has peaked. This is his 2nd year in the league and he has improved from his rookie year and now defensively he has to take another leap forward after this upcoming off-season. I've really liked seeing Jordan take and hit the 3pt shot with more confidence since the all star break. I thought it was cool what JC said in the post game last night how Kobe approached him during the break and said he needed to let his outside shot fly more often. 2nd year player we're talking about here, no way is he done getting better
I agree. I think it's crazy to say he has peaked, based on his work ethic and how much he has improved already. The sky is the limit for him.
I think a coach like Thibs would make a WORLD of difference for Clarkson (and Russell and Randle as well). If you could get Thibs to promise not to run our kids into the ground, hiring him could accelerate their development immensely. It's not like the three of them don't have the tools to be competent defenders. The only disadvantage is maybe Randle's short arms. Other than that, they all three are physically gifted enough to be good to great defenders.
If Kawhi Leonard or Jimmy Butler had to play for Boron, I doubt they'd be as good as they are now. Coaching can make that a huge difference for our 3 youngsters.
Why it will be easy to keep JC in free agency http://www.forumblueandgold.com/2016/02/01/a-quick-note-on-jordan-clarksons-free-agency/ JC thinks he's the most underrated player in the NBA http://www.theplayerstribune.com/jordan-clarkson-lakers-what-the-blank/
Whats going on with his 3 point shot? He is making them with extreme accuracy and has turned up his 3p% to above 38%... Its amazing to me how good he has become from distance and just overall a very very good player.
It's even more surprising if you consider that he was making them at an even higher clip at the start of the year, until he twisted his ankle. He could very well become an elite 3 pt shooter.
Who also happens to have a reliable floater, can drive, is good on the break and a decent passer. I see a great future for this young man... if he learns some defense. He should use that work ethic of his in this area in the off-season, once he has that new contract and doesn't have to worry about making an impression on O.
Just an off night. A lot of his threes were catch and shoot like he's been hitting, but I'd say they weren't nearly as open as he's had lately. He was having to shoot very quickly and his man was right there. He drove and made a nice play or two, but everyone other than Russ and Randle seemed out of sync and just off tonight. He made a really nice drive on a fast break, as an example of one play, kind of faked a kick-out to Russ I believe, and instead glided to the hoop for what looked like an easy layup, and he just blew the layup. One of those nights, it came off his hand wrong, bad angle and missed, and he put his head down like "nothing is going right" and ran back on d, all he could do.
