He's had a couple very good games in a row, it's good to see. Last 2 games we've seen a variety of moves from him, floater, the post move above, going the distance for a layup after getting a stop on the other end, mid range jumpers, and more. He's got a solid all-around offensive game already, and one aspect I think doesn't get talked about really is his handles, which despite the turnovers, I think look really sweet at times. Like you said, real, he's tall, and I think once he gets stronger his offensive abilities only get better, like with going to the post. He absolutely got the better of Cole last game multiple times, and on defense he did a good job on him. He's not a big dude yet, and he may never be, but he's only about to turn 20, still a kid, will grow into an NBA body for sure IMO. He clearly puts in the work.

Must have been too cocky last night posting up because he got pulled by the moron for Lou (who was having a terrible game) with around 2 minutes left. Nothing says slap in the face like having a great game only to be replaced in crunch time by a guy that would have benched if his name was DAR.

He earned the right to close out that game last night.

He needs a little more shoulder shake in the post, but that was pretty NOICE.

Really good read. I'm glad it mentions how many assists his teammates are costing him too, because it needs to be said. Yeah, he isn't putting up a lot of assists, but you don't get them for setting up teammates perfectly and them blowing the shots. This was Kobe early on, and now it's a lot of Bass, and some Randle, JC, Lou, and Hibbert. Bass often gets blocked, stripped, misses an easy one, it's frustrating. Randle misses the initial shot, and then scores a lot on the hustle 2nd attempt, which is nice, but coats assists.

It's nice to see the potential that is there in those numbers though, we may not be blown away by what he's put up because we're used to Kobe for so long, but as shown he's doing some really good stuff as a rookie. While being not exactly helped along much by B0ron, and being benched too. I haven't followed the 76ers at all this season, but if that stuff about Okafor's poor defense costing him court time is true, that's also encouraging about the choice the FO made in taking Russ.

Definately a great read! Alot of encouraging things about his game that most people don't realize and fail to see because the current state of this team.

Seems like he would have been the perfect PG for the Triangle.

Also noticed he rarely slams even though quite capable. Doesn't bother me a bit. His game will age well.

yeah, the upside of a game not predicated on athleticism is durability. although I've come to think he's more athletic than I previously thought.

I'm really not worried about Russell. he's got star written all over him, imo.

I still watch all the games, that can be torturous enough. Can't possibly stand to listen to his interviews or embarrassing responses. He isn't old school like he claims just plain idiotic. Nothing at all wrong with being old school.

Love this kid. That he can be this positive while having his starting position and being in the conversation for ROTY, ripped as well by Scott, speaks to how tough he is mentally.

D’Angelo Russell: ‘I’m In Love With This Process’
    By Ramneet Singh -
    02/05/2016

The Los Angeles Lakers snatched their second consecutive victory on Thursday night thanks to Kobe Bryant’s heroics. The 20-year veteran put up another spectacular performance and his timely baskets late in the game were what got the Lakers over the hump. After his 38 point game on Tuesday, Bryant followed it up with 27 points and 12 rebounds against the Pelicans.

Rookie D’Angelo Russell had himself a solid night off the bench as he played just shy of 30 minutes. The guard out of Ohio State put up 13 points to go along with his three rebounds and three assists.

After the win, Russell spoke to the media and discussed how his rookie season has played out thus far, via Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

"D'Angelo Russell (on TWC): “I’m in love with this process. The bad, the ups & downs, the process of getting to where I want to be."

This season has been a tough one for Russell as his playing time has been quite sporadic. Nevertheless, Russell has remained a consummate professional through the tough times and he will eventually get the minutes he deserves.

The Lakers have now won two straight games after suffering through a ten game losing streak. Although none of this will matter in terms of climbing the Western Conference standings, it is nice seeing the team come out on the winning end.

The team will be back on the court Saturday night when they pay a visit to one of the best teams in the league, the San Antonio Spurs. The Lakers have won these past two games against sub-par teams, so they will really be tested against the Spurs.

Meanwhile, forget about the prick changing course. Of course he had nothing to do with the slowing of his development. Here are quotes dated today:

Byron Scott Thought D’Angelo Russell Would Be ‘A Little Further’ Along
    By Corey Hansford -

    02/06/2016

The development of the Los Angeles Lakers young core has been a major storyline this season, but no player has gotten more attention than rookie D’Angelo Russell. Russell has dealt with plenty of criticism this season, some of which has come from his head coach Byron Scott.

The early success of some of Russell’s contemporaries has made many wonder if the Lakers made the right choice with the second overall pick.

Scott still believes in Russell, but admits that he thought Russell would be a little further along right now than he is according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times:

“I probably thought he’d be a little further,” Scott said Saturday as the Lakers prepared to play San Antonio. “But … 19 years old. I always take that into consideration. Every time I try to chastise him about something or get mad at him about something, I always go right back to, ‘You know what? Coach, he’s 19. He’s still a kid, he’s still learning, he’s still trying to figure out what this league is all about.’ ”

Scott also said that Russell isn’t where he would like defensively, though he did note that Russell has improved significantly:

“Defensively, I was hoping he’d be a tad further along on the ball as well as off the ball. But those are things I look back from training camp until now, he’s gotten so much better in a lot of those areas. He knows and I know he still has a long way to go in those areas as well.”

Scott’s tough love approach with Russell has come under a lot of criticism, but Russell has been tough on himself as well. Russell hasn’t been as good as he expects of himself and he will continue to work until he reaches that level.

Russell may not be at the level that he or his coach wants, but he still possesses a lot of potential. He will be returning to the starting lineup at some point after the All-Star Break and all of the young players will likely play major roles down the stretch, which will give Russell an excellent opportunity to show everyone how good he can be.

Wow, as they used to politically incorrectly say on Clublakers .... no homo .... but look at that smile in the 2nd pic. There's your winner at the top of the gene pool personality. Remind you at all of this guy when we used to like him?
