Trust me. I like the kid a lot. I think he will be a star. But the key word in that sentence is THINK. All the other guys I know are already stars. And any one of them increases our chances IMMENSELY of attracting Durant. I mean, Davis and Durant would be devastating. Russell is 3-4 years away from being on their level if he ever reaches it. We trade for one of those guys, we instantly become very attractive. They think the cap will jump almost another full max NEXT offseason as well. Start with Davis and then you lure Durant and maybe Batum. Then next offseason you are the Lakers. You have Davis and Durant and max money to throw at someone along with some nice role players like Batum and Lou Williams. In the summer of 2017 we are ridiculously attractive to the likes of Westbrook, Lowry...even CP3.

I mean, I LOVE the idea of Russell being the next great Laker guard here for his entire career. But there are guys on that list that could make us legit dark horse contenders next season because of the FA attraction, and in 2 seasons we could be a juggler knot.

I admit, if I had my dream scenario, Russell would become a Steph/Nash sort of Hybrid, Randle would become Larry Johnson 2.0, Clarkson becomes a Monta Ellis-like instant offense. We keep our pick, draft Ingram and we watch that core become the next dynasty after GS fades. But all that is a crapshoot. Move him for Davis or Drummond or something like that, we could be battling GS for West supremacy for the next 5-6 years.

The first six I understand, but Harden seriously?

I don't want that guy anywhere near our team. He's a horrible leader. Plays no defense. Ball stopper. Doesn't even really put any effort and it's no secret he got McHale fired.

I'm not really sure Jimmy Butler, Lillard, or even Drummond are really stars at least not yet. All Stars absolutely, but legit franchise players? That still remains to be seen. No we don't know how good Russell will be, but I don't think we should trade him unless it's for a legit superstar because he's a potential one and possibly a guy who can lead this franchise once he develops.

I'd trade anyone on our team for AD without a second thought. Sorry. I've never seen a big his size do the things he does. He's a monster. Sucks about his injuries this year, but almost everyone gets injured at some point in the NBA. That wouldn't dissuade me a bit. But no, that's not happening anyway. We're not trading D-LO and the Pelicans wouldn't be offering up AD.

Lou is out and the kid only plays 24 minutes. The worst part is I was expecting nothing less.

I'd trade our entire team and I'm not joking.

With any luck in three or four years or whenever AD is set to hit free agency and hopefully his injuries will have been a thing of the past and D'Angelo will have established himself as a superstar point guard and Julius as one of the game's top power forwards and he'll be able to come on board.

So our lists are actually pretty similar. I left out Westbrook mainly because I think we have a good shot at signing him outright once he is a free agent, but I wouldn't be upset if we traded for him.

And yeah, there is literally no GM in the league who wouldn't trade Russell for Davis.

Hadn't even thought of Leonard, but that's a good one too. @Savory Griddles brought up Drummond and I'd probably take that one too actually. I'm not sure about Butler, wouldn't want Harden, and I think D'Angelo can be better than Lillard (not a knock on Lillard, I love that kid's game).

I just want to emphasize again that I like Russell and I think he has a legit shot to be better than half the guys I listed. But a bird in hand vs two in the bush.

It's a testament to how good we think he is that the list is so short.

Never said there was, but I'm not trading a great young asset like Russell who has superstar potential for a guy who can't stay on the court. I'm just not doing it. Yes injuries do happen, but this guy is getting hurt almost every time he steps on the court. He looks like a guy who could end being on the path of another Grant Hill or Tracy McGrady. Those guys were great players too, but they were never able to stay on the court. We need to find a way to get a great player that isn't made of glass.
