hmmm...wonder why?? although I will say that scott actually pointing out some things he could work on defensively is refreshing. sadly refreshing.
Byron's either a complete and utter idiot, a total incompetent or he's trying to lose on purpose. There can be no other answers for his behavior. I don't know which it is. I never questioned his intelligence before and that one is the hardest for me to swallow. It seems more likely that he's totally incompetent (which makes sense given his terrible win/loss ratio career wise) and has relied on his players' talent for the success he has had, or that he's deliberately tanking. It's just really difficult to tell.
Byron+moron=B0ron, say it with me B 0 r o n... I'll check some highlights but I can't sit through a full game anymore. Mitch, Jim, Jeannie and B0ron has ruined this franchise.
If he's going to be relegated to the bench the rest of the season (him and Russell), then you put them him optimal situations to succeed. That means you have at least 2-3 floor spacers out there for him at all times (Russell, Young, Clarkson), spread the floor, allow him to create. He has a tendency of becoming locked in on getting 'his' at times, and while I know that has to be corrected, this offense hasn't put him in the best positions to succeed. He has to set better screens, roll harder to the hoop, and stop getting tunnel vision. Drive and kick, Julius. Either way, pick in roll, post game, transition, offensive putbacks, are all ways he can get his points right now...efficiently!

If we actually pushed the basketball and didn't relegate him to the bench and ran screen and roll with him and either Jordan or D'Angelo he's probably already a 15-10 player. This kid is gonna be scary good once he refines his post game and adds a jumper. He's a hit a little bit of a wall and obviously being benched doesn't help either. Will be just fine.
He did seem to get banged up in the game, but pulled through and finished strong. The way Byron plays his minutes and when he rotates in makes absolutely no sense, especially not getting in until 1 minute left in the 1st. Ridiculous.
There were multiple concerns about Julius not being able to rebound in the NBA. I think these are put firmly to rest. BEAST
the irony is that he rebounded well in college, and that's one of the few stats that seems to translate pretty well to the nba game. thus, nobody should be surprised by him rebounding. i'll admit his early troubles on the boards concerned me, but when the lakers drafted him, I expected a double-digit rebounder on most nights.
He wasn't showing great effort back then, THAT was the concern. I was worried a little bit about his motor because he seemed so focused on making an impact offensively. He wasn't boxing out, he wasn't crashing the glass, and he was forcing everything. Now? Just try to keep him off the glass I dare you. The kid is an absolute monster. I don't remember the last time we had a kid as glass hungry as Julius.
^^ Yep. 14 boards in 25 minutes. Also despite trying to go one on three in the lane at times, he still finished with 14 points and shot 50%. Not too shabby.
Randle has got to stop with the tunnel vision on offense though. He went 1 on 3 in the paint and got stripped one play instead hitting a wide open Russ for 3 who was calling for the ball. Then he drove to the hoop a bit latet and went up on 2 defenders and missed the layup, instead of passing to Sacre who was running at the hoop wide open, would have been a dunk. He showed he will make good passes, passes out of the paint in doubles, early in the season, he needs to go back to that.
yeah, he needs to learn to trust his teammates to get the ball back to him in a better position. i think some of his and russell's comments have hit upon this. i'm just not sure that julius realizes he's probably the chief guilty party (along with kobe). come to think of it, there's just not a lot of willing passers on this squad. and that, like actually passing, is contagious. watch dallas play, then watch the lakers. it's night and day. one could argue that they have substantially less offensive talent on the whole, too.
OK. In Boron Land are all of Julius' sometimes rough and raw but impressive offensive talents ..... and his rookie / sophomore / League rebounding performance so far this year NOT worth anything???? It's all about Larry Nance being that much of a better defender? Is Larry actually a better defender, I have no idea? But my gut is if he even is, maybe intellectually and in help situations, why would you demote your clear first string player in Randle rather than continuing to have Metta and Worthy and Kobe and whoever the eff ....work with him?? Why do you do this when he was BALLING those previous couple of games, getting on a roll????? Is Byron actually power tripping on Julius? Why else would he do this? Or if you aren't totally neutral and supplicant to him in your back and forth practice and game charged vocal communications..... does that set drill sergeant Scott off too? If he could would he stick an M-14 in Randles hands and make him hold it over his head in freezing rain and spin in circles for a couple of hours? WTF is he doing and why do Mitch and Jim let him do it? Clearly Randle's not himself now, he's pissed and frustrated. He was f****** blowing up and on a roll and Scott did this to him.
^^^ Myself and others have called this "criminal" in the context of an NBA head coach doing that kind of crap and head games with your most valuable young talented players you want to become cornerstones. But it's a Capital offense what he has done to Black this year.
