maybe but like Worthy also said Julius is constantly working on it. This has already been posted and brought up in his thread here but we likely won't see a noticeable improvement till next year because during this off-season I thought it was tracy murphy (our shooting coach) who said he was going to completely change the way Julius shoots from a form and technique standpoint.
We just need him to beast on the boards and bring that energy every night. His offense is still raw and will develop eventually. Jeff van Gundy was right about that 1st play off the bench last night. He gave up an offensive rebound on a free throw and lost him man on a back cut. A lackluster effort on two consecutive plays which was unacceptable.
And Larry did? I like him as a backup, but no way did he earn starting minutes. He shouldn't be playing more than 15.
Shooting 42% as a PF and being an awful defender certainly doesn't help his case. He simply needs to be better than that. If he isn't, the bench will be his friend. He shows flashes in one game and absolutely dominates, then becomes completely terrible the next game. Thats just not cutting it.
Exactly. Admittedly, sometimes, I forget, too. However, check Kevin Love stats his first year; also Paul George. He has 10 double doubles. Sure, he needs to improve. However, with his work ethic.and desire to be great, he will fix it n
I think we have kind of been spoiled by Kobe for 15 years or so. Not every good or great player is good or great every game or at least puts up the stats like Kobe did even on an off night, every single game. I'm starting to learn that now watching other teams, other rookies and young players, other very good players, 2nd tier stars, stuff like that. These guys have bad games, invisible games, games where they have no impact. Kobe didn't really have that for so long, easy to forget that we can't hold the next Lakers to that standard, Kobe is top 5 all time IMO, once in a generation player. Randle will be fine.
He's a rookie , it will take time . The current team environment doesn't help at all It's so easy for us to badly criticized ...
We do, the process is you go f*** yourself Boron and not letting the door hit you in the a** on the way out of here. Absolutely the sooner the better. It's called being fired.
He needs and deserves more than 20 minutes a game which is what he's been demoted to after having two double double games in a row on the road. Byron sucks, straight up. Worst Laker coach I've ever seen. I am stunned that he is so freaking horrible and lacking in any common sense or idea of how to coach.
with some people comparing Randle to LO, it only makes sense he has some games where he completely disappears. let's cut him some slack. anybody who expected otherwise with him not having a jumper was asking too much of the kid. he's also rarely getting easy buckets where he isn't being asked to go 1on1. besides this rough patch the last 2 games, i would say he's developing quite nicely.
My God, B0ron really is, isn't he? The worst coach this franchise has ever had, Jerry Buss was just humoring B0ron when/if they ever had a discussion on B0ron coaching the Lakers as B0ron claims. I mean the old man knew what's up.
It's such a shame, because he really was one of my favorite players. I even met him once back at the end of the Showtime era. So I was rooting for him to succeed. But the way he is sitting the youngsters right now and misusing this roster is just infuriating. I can't stand watching him any more. I will never hate him as much as D' Antoni because that dude was a bad joke, but Byron can't coach his way out of a paper bag. I can't wait until the FO meets him. They better straighten him out because this playing the rooks 20 minutes a game while still losing is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Larry Nance does NOT deserve or warrant equal or more minutes than Randle. Sitting Randle for 28 minutes per game is asinine. This guy is my favorite Laker right now and if he's going to be regulated to the bench that much I'm losing patience in watching this horrible product.
I get the benching, but that means giving him more opportunities not less. If you send the kid to the bench that's not an excuse to give him 20 minutes, it's a reason to give him 30 minutes with less Kobe taking his possessions and demanding attention. Just unbelievable.
You get the timing of the benching too, when he's beasting and blowing up finally as a rebounder, which people were knocking him for early on? I don't get it period. Nance is nice, off the bench behind Julius, not the other way around.
He's clearly one of the handful (top five) best bigs in their first two seasons in the NBA right now.
As long he's pulling down the boards I'm quite happy at this point. We've seen what he can do when he beasts. Consistency will come with time.
LOL. Am I the only guy here with a subscription to the L.A. Times? Haven't read the sports section all Monday 12/14 and here is this aricle by Bresnahan that actually had Byron's thoughts on why he is relegating Randle to 2nd string for now. Even kinda, maybe, might, seemingly make sense if Nance is doing better in the area and that was the ONLY metric to judge Randall on. He's saying defense. Focussing on defense to the exclusion of everything else apparently, that Randle is doing right. Is Nance yet on the same level in NBA games as Julius on defense, as good as him or better than him presently? But prior to Boron actually giving some of his (logic) for the move he says stupidly, after totally wrecking the roll that Randle was on with this asinine move, "He just hasn't played well the last couple of games, period. His energy hasn't been the same,". Quote .... unquote. Ya think, you schmuck for wrecking the momentum he had going??? F***ing clueless, drill sergeant wannabe. Julius Randle's production has tailed off since demotion to a Lakers reserve Mike BresnahanContact Reporter Julius Randle and D'Angelo Russell were not excited to lose their starting jobs, Randle in particular unable to hide his feelings by saying very little. "It is what it is," he kept repeating to reporters when Coach Byron Scott made the decision three games ago to drop them to reserve status. Randle wouldn't be very happy if he looked in-depth at his stats the last two games since the demotion. It's a small sample size, but he missed 15 of 20 shots and averaged only 5.5 points. "Keep attacking," said a subdued Randle after going three-for-11 Saturday in the Lakers' 126-97 loss to Houston. "Even though the shots aren't [getting] made so many times, I'm not really worried about it. They're just not going in right now." "You sit nine or 10 minutes and then you get in and try to figure out the flow of the game," he said. "Playing with a different unit and different guys, you're just trying to get used to it. It's a completely different feeling." After handing out the new job assignments, Scott said he would reevaluate everything after 10 games. Russell, coincidentally, rejoined the starters for two games and played fairly well after Jordan Clarkson was sidelined by a sprained ankle. Randle, on the other hand, missed his first four shots against Houston before scoring on a fastbreak dunk after a nice drop-off pass by Marcelo Huertas. Then, tellingly, his shot was blocked by Terrence Jones a few possessions later. "He just hasn't played well the last couple of games, period. His energy hasn't been the same," Scott said. Randle has 10 double-doubles, which leads all players from the 2014 draft class. If he doesn't start scoring, he won't be the head of that stat for long. Randle's outside touch is severely lacking, his 42.6% accuracy way too low for a power forward who doesn't take three-point shots. He also needs to work on using his right hand to develop counter moves in the post. Despite all the missed shots, Scott seemed to have a bigger problem with Randle's defense. "He's just not ready to guard," Scott said. "He kind of waits until the guy catches the ball and then he wants to guard. It's the old saying, you've got to do your work early. "I was taught in high school, if you don't want your guy to score, don't let him catch it. Sometimes our guys wait and let him catch it and then they want to guard him. That's not the way to play. Not in this league." Randle, to his credit, seemed amenable to improving. His work ethic is near the top on the team. "That's something I'll go on the film and look at. It's hard to tell when you're in the game," he said." ....and more, you cheapskates http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakers/la-sp-lakers-20151214-story.html mike.bresnahan@latimes.com
