I think the tank is on for sure. Not on purpose, but because there's nothing else. Even TRYING to win, they're going to lose a lot of games. That'll be especially true if they give more minutes to the kids. Tanking shouldn't have been an idea this season, but this ridiculously poor start is kind of going to make that decision for them.

If I were going to a new job and I knew the three guys behind me were either fired or quit, I'd definitely want more security. That means higher salary and longer guaranteed years on the contract (5-6 years even if I'm a guy like Luke). If we want to hire another mediocre coach like Brooks then sure you can get away with another Byron-esque contract but anyone with vision is going to cost you a lot.

Our assistant coaches are not good potential head coaching candidates and Byron did that on purpose. He's been usurped before and he didn't want that happening so he brought in a bunch of yes-men that aren't really head coaching candidates. Dropping Byron I think would just mean more Byron-esque coaching without Scott. Now there's a legitimate argument that Byron being fired and letting a scrub coach like Madsen take over is an improvement, but that's easy for us to say. I don't think the Lakers will agree. Especially since they sold Byron as our savior and would have to eat a thousand crows.

Damn, this is highway robbery. I am pretty sure I could coach the team to the same results so far.

His contract was another point I forgot to mention earlier in regard to not feeling "sympathetic" to him. Hoo boy he has it so hard, well he can cry himself to sleep at night with his 4 million dollars per year. That or man up, and eat a bowl of grit.

Good post, though I'm not sure I agree on 2 points. One, I don't think we win a ton more games playing the youth more, but I actually think we are in or win a few more games playing them more. I'd say that because unless I'm wrong, lineups with JC, Russ, and Randle have been some of our most successful this season. Going to bench of Bass at the 5, too much Lou, some Huertas, that's when things get away from us in a lot of games.

And two, I still believe what I said earlier today that getting B0ron as far away from these kids as possible is a plus, even if Madsen takes over. Like I said, if the rotation plan of more rookies and no more bass at the 5 came down from the FO I think Madsen could be a coach in name only pretty much and the players could coach themselves or at least learn better just by not having B0ron around. At least then they wouldn't be learning bad habits or wrong stuff from him that they have to unlearn later. Hell I trust Kobe to instruct these guys where to be on offense and defense, and to draw up plays more than B0ron. He may not be able to DO all the things he tells others to do, but he's still very smart, like Randle or whoever it was said the other day. Something like Kobe's defensive awareness is great, he knows where guys are gonna be, where passes are going, he just can't physically keep up or break up the plays he sees coming. I may be undervaluing the role of a head coach, but I want this coach away from these guys, both rooks and vets.

Could Kobe pull off what Magic couldn't as player coach? No way will this happen...but it would be interesting to see if Kobe in that role could ever sit himself on the bench to control his mins.

No kidding. I think there are a number of us on this board that could coach this team better than Byron. Heck, let Kobe draw up plays and just sub people consistently in and out and that's already more than Byron does.

I think we'll win a couple more games, but nothing significant which is why the tank is "on" whether we like it or not. This first part of the season was supposed to be the easy part. Our schedule only gets harder from here. Since we lost so many of these early games, we're now going to "tank". I think playing the young guys more means more competitive/fun games but even so we're not going to win more than 25 games at this point which should be in the Bottom 4 at least.

Far be it from me to defend Byron. I really don't want to and I completely understand the argument of removing him now. I really do. I just don't think it's likely to happen. Unless Byron reverts back to playing the kids 20 minutes a night consistently for a while and all that stuff, he's still going to keep his job unfortunately.

Remember when Aldridge criticized our FA pitch to him, wondering why we didn't present any basketball X's and O's? Imagine if Byron had tried to talk about his coaching philosophies! I'm sure Mitch and Jim gave Byron the old; "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt."

Well Aldridge got to see the X's and O's first hand tonight. Actually he still didn't, because they are nonexistent.

He's just horrendous. I think he's the worst coach I've seen.

Byron is just terrible. We had cut into the lead and then he puts Ryan Kelly in. Game was over right then and there. Seriously what has Tarik Black done? Dude is a solid backup center. Why is Randle playing only 20 minutes? I know he struggled, but struggles or not it's better than going to Kelly. We play so damn slow like this isn't the 2011 or 2012 Lakers. This is a young, energetic, athletic bunch. Get easy baskets in transition.

I've been saying it over and over, these guys need to run more. Who cares if Hibbert and Kobe are slow, just run with Russ, Randle and JC. Easy baskets all day. Instead we have to run his stupid offense that spends 20 seconds passing the ball around the perimeter.

Unless the organziation got a tip from the league they are gonna win the first pick, he is the biggest WTF ever to get a coaching job.

A little off topic but I think 76ers are going to get the #1 pick. Owners around the league are starting to complain about them not selling tickets well so whats a better way to sell tickets than Ben Simmons being your star player?

So they reward a team that's been tanking blatantly for three straight seasons? I know we've been pretty awful, but the Sixers on in a class by themselves in terms of ineptitude.

f*** 76ers, they're beyond terrible. No other team openly admits to tanking.
