He's also playing with a 4 in the starting unit that has yet to develop a consistent jump shot. Our starting SF has been shooting like crap, too.

Finishers, shooters that spread the floor are what Russell will flourish in and create the space he needs to operate. Despite that, he's been developing nicely.

Hey what are the players his assists come from? I have a feeling it's mostly Clarkson.

Just imagine what his assists will look like when we use up the $60 mil in cap space we'll have next season, now that we don't have to throw down for an $8-9 million Duncan-sweetheart contract for Kobe.

That 8 second violation just put him in the doghouse for 20 more games.

As soon as he did that, I stated we wouldn't see him until the next game.

Wasn't just that but he also took that awful three pointer. He deserved to get benched last night. Poor decision making should land you on the bench.

I know this is Russ' thread, but meanwhile in Philly:

    http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...delphia-76ers-tweets-not-proud-some-decisions

Good for Jahlil to own up but.... driving 100+ MPH and getting in an altercation at a club and a guy pulls a gun on you. Not the best places to be.

As for Russ, quiet game last night. He just looked a little sluggish, I don't know if it was just me but it would have been nice to see him out there in the end but that 8 second violation did it in for him.

Didn't get to see much of the game, but two mistakes shouldn't land you on the bench when it's clear the best thing for this team is development. To me you have to let Russell play through mistakes. That's how he'll continue to develop. Same goes for Julius and Clarkson.

Nope. He made a few really stupid decisions out there for a stretch. Sit him down. I'd say the same thing about every other person on this team.

Amazing really. He made some bad decisions; 8 second shot violation, a total of 2 TO's, he missed all 4 three-point attempts. I'd still play him. We're not going anywhere, we're not winning games, this season is about getting the most time out of Russell, Randle, and Clarkson and developing them together. Through the good and the bad times...

Yeah. I say the more experience the better to be honest. We stink and this season is already a wash. Let them take their lumps and build chemistry together.

What makes it worse is that the numbers keep telling us that the team plays better with the young guys on the floor.

It's a marathon not a sprint and if he'd made those mistakes in the first and fixed them in the second half I'd agree.

But he didnt. He was sloppy and he should have sat. The next game is a new day and he has a chance to get back in there and do things right.

Yep. It's okay. We'll continue to let Kobe shoot 30%, play Williams who's played awful in certain stretches, and Bass who has been for the most part an overall disappointment this year. There's no rhyme or reason to anything Byron does or anything he is consistent with; give him the same leash Mudiay has if he's your future.

I disagree. Lou, Kobe and Young make mistakes all game long on defense and on offense...yet they don't get yanked. Russell makes a few mistakes and he's gone for the rest of the game? The double standard is what bothers me. If Scott was doing the same to the vets, then I would understand the benching of Russell. But since he's not? I will never understand it. Let Russell make 10,000 mistakes please. That's the only way he's going to get better.

That's pretty much my number one gripe about it. Byron only yanks the young guys for mistakes.

I'm not Coach Scott or I'd pull those guys too.

I know this isn't the popular opinion, but pulling young guys works. Pulling older guys doesn't work as well, but I'd still do it. I wouldn't let Kobe or Lou make mistakes either. I'd pull them when I had to.

Last night Russell wasn't playing well and he needed to get pulled. It's fine. He made the mistakes and continued making them. There's a difference between him making the mistake of not rotating over and holding up his hand saying "my bad" and having him come down chuck a bad shot, make a bad pass, and miss a rotation. He needs to sit and get his head on straight. It's okay to do that.

Russell's minutes have been increasing steadily so now we can't b**** anymore about his playing time. Pulling him like Byron did last night is the RIGHT way to do it. What he was doing before was just sitting him for no reason which is the WRONG way to do it.
