It would have been hilarious if Kristaps was drafted by us. Pure comedy on what Boron would come up with.
Imagine zinger man up in the fox hole? Priceless.
I agree with most though, I would still take DAR over Zinger but not Okafor because of my bigman bias. Zinger is tall but not thick.

Sure, but we both followed Russell closely in college. He remained too timid at times in college, too. He carried the Ohio St. team, and I wouldn't call it a big problem, but it is something that does need to be addressed and corrected.

While the coach, the age, and others things have been mentioned for his lack of assertiveness, we have to remember, we've seen Kobe Bean Bryant for 20 years. That was one thing we didn't have to worry about Kobe; he gave it his all on the floor and left it there. He would take tough shots, force things, and come down kicking down the door, and Russell has a more 'relaxed' way about him. He's going to make the right play most of the time. For instance, people have made mention of not turning the corner on a screen, or attacking more often; well, more often than not, if there is 3 or 4 guys standing in the paint, he's not going to drive the basketball into a wall of defenders. If he's asked to dump into the high-post too Hibbert, stand in the corner, he's going to do it.

I've seen the advanced stats; you have too, Elgin. He's not the wrong pick in our eyes. However, I'm frustrated and disappointed by the season, and I hope Russell can take what he did in that 4th quarter against Phoenix and build his confidence to start an upward trend.

Poise. The best and worst thing about him. It prevents him from being aggressive.

I don't disagree with any of this. I would like to see him come out stronger to begin games like he did against the Nets for example.

It's tough to play for the Lakers. Nobody gives a crap when you suck playing for the Sixers or T-pupps. Hit a rough stretch (even when you're prime Kobe) and the media is ready with their pitch forks and torches :D

I can't say I am all that frustrated with him though. He has a long way to go but his numbers overall are about what I thought they would be.

I didn't see the first half last night though so...

TJ will be out of the league in 2 years. Russell will be in Boron's doghouse for 2 years. Hence, TJ =\>DAR:Kobe Snickering:

Yeah, I always go to Complex for my NBA analysis. To say that Russell "kinda sucks", means to me that you aren't actually watching him play, and seeing things in context. You're looking at basketball-reference.com, or watching ESPN highlights, the sort of highlights that like to show all of Kobe's misses in a row to make it seem like he's even worse than he's actually been.

Once Russell has run the Laker fan "u have to come out of the gate playing hall of fame ball" gauntlet he will be fine..lol. Seriously we need to give our young players time to develop. Look at it this way, how would u develop with Byron as ur coach? In that scenario he is ahead of the game.

I said it before, i'll say it again. On every other NBA team, Russ is a double double with 5 boards guy. Running for the ROY trophy. Playing for Boron, makes him look like a scrub. SMH

I don't know if Russel is a bust or what, but I do know that coach has a huge influence. Pop made a player out of freaking Belinelli.

Yes, but that's Pop. Comparing him and Byron is totally unfair.

It's kind of refreshing having a guy like Russell, number two pick with an obvious high level of talent that doesn't immediately alienate himself from his teammates by trying to take over games when he shouldn't. I never feel like he's not thinking out there. Tentative sure, disengaged at times dunno, maybe. I'm just not worried that we're not going to see everything this kid's got to improve and with his skill set that will only lead to good things. He's reading all the crap and I 'm sure eager to prove his worth in the league.

I don't think he's a double-double guy on another team. The hate for Byron is so extreme it's clouding some of your guys' judgement. Russell is too timid to average those gaudy numbers and that'd be true no matter where he is. You know why? Because he's a kid in an environment that's unfamiliar to him. I used the pool analogy and I'll do it again: some people dive in and some people stick in a toe and move their way down.

Even if he was made the focal point of the team, that doesn't change the way he drives to the rim or that his shoot percentage is fairly low.

I'm not saying that as an attack either. Those things are common in young, skinny players. Besides he's got a different attitude like @RandleROFY said. He's a laid back person, not like Kobe or Randle. He's not a rah-rah guy and he's not going to be the one screaming and puffing out his chest. Maybe occasionally a ways down the road when he's more comfortable, but not right now when he's clearly so uncomfortable.

So the question is, what's the ratio of "he's uncomfortable because he's a laid back guy trying to adjust to the nba" and "he's uncomfortable because he's forced to play in a confusing offensive system that's not to his strengths for a coach who's an old- school, stubborn hard a**, that makes frustrating and mind boggling decisions without explanation of what he expects of him"?
It's obviously both. But I'd say the ratio is 30/70. What do you think, real?
