Who are we to believe then, other than Byron has no idea WTF he is doing and his coaching is sabotaging the success of the team?

Russell is sad, when asked if he knew why he wasn't playing in the fourth quarter....

Looks like he is brimming with confidence.

Great Job Byron!!! Coach Byron for Coach of the Year!!!:Kobepuking:

the stuff from emplay is pretty damning. we shouldn't be questioning the work ethic of a rookie this early. I wonder if Byron is leaking some of this to save face? anyway, failure to put in effort is a reason to bench someone. it just doesn't sync with other reports of his work ethic. somebody's lying somewhere.

Picnus has been pretty pro-Byron online as of late.

Like I said, his take doesn't match up with many other reports of Russell putting extra effort.

Feels like spin to me but we will see.

Sorry I don't believe a word of what Pincus is tweeting out. More than anything, there's just too much emotion behind those tweets. Comes across as blatantly having an anti-DAR agenda, rather than straight up reporting information.

I do not get Pincus defending of Byron. He said he isn't defending him and is just reporting what he sees, but he seems to be taking his side on everything other than Kobe.

I also really don't get this "nonchalant attitude" thing regarding Russell. He's a 19 year old kid! If a nonchalant attitude were a huge issue or problem for him, they didn't notice that in workouts and pre-draft interviews? Bullcrap. He isn't a fiery guy, he plays with a different style, I've brought that up before, but it can't be helping his attitude to not play in 4th quarters of meaningless games for no reason.

Regardless of the DAR situation, or Kobe, none of that can hide or excuse his coaching job. Maybe it deflects some attention, but I doubt the Lakers brass would allow this to go unchecked on their #2 pick when their coach obviously is not the long term fit.

    Stay tuned for more updates....

Completely agree. I think we will be hearing something from the front office fairly soon to be honest.

Isn't it the coach's job to prepare the players? So taking extra time and benching him for no reason is "accelerating the process?"

...there appears to be a change in Byron's tone.

This is just Byron being stubborn and weird, using the clock to dictate his coaching. He subs in people after a certain amount of minutes rather than with the flow of the game. Now Russell needs a week to be better. Why a week? What are you doing in this week that is going to suddenly make him more ready than he is now? Honestly I think he just pulls stuff out of his a** sometimes.

Yeah. His comments just reek of someone who is winging it with no real long term plan.

As far as I'm concerned, not playing D'Angelo in the 4th was a HUGE lost opportunity in his development.

I can't think think of a better "take-off-the kid-gloves" way to prepare our pg for the NBA than putting him in during a blowout loss. He knows the loss isn't on his shoulders so there's less pressure yet he is jumping into the lion's den as the momentum is going heavily the other way. If he manages to gain some control or turn it around a bit it's a tremendous confidence booster for him in crisis situations. In future momentum swings he can go "ok, been there done that" and have some familiarity and confidence.

As for Pincus, I have never cared about his opinions, he's still a reporter only in my mind, not a commentator. Good for reporting facts and that's it.

What about the last two rookie point guards that he had who both eventually won rookie of the year? They both played 30+ minutes a game and I'm sure weren't benched in the 4th quarter.

And for argument's sake, let's say Byron is really thinking this is the best approach to handling DAR. You're just coddling the kid and shielding him from making mistakes? How the hell is he going to learn anything? Stupid approach imo.
