We're just in a tough spot here. Who would be our interim coach? Paul Pressey? Mark Madsen?

I think you guys are kidding yourselves or wishful thinking if you believe Byron is going to be fired soon. I don't think the Lakers are willing to admit their horrible mistake this soon, to embarrass Byron and themselves after the show they put on when he was hired, and to pay yet another coach to stay home. How many head coaches would we be paying at one time if Byron is fired, 3? 4? I see the Lakers and Byron as a stubborn pair, I don't see this ending soon.

Shouldn't Potato Head be off the books already?

Regardless getting a capable head coach in the middle of a season is going to be hard. I'm all for sticking someone there as interim and then do the hire over the summer, problem is who is that interim going to be and we'll most likely still suck. I want the next coach to be out of the box, go for a college coach. Thibs is an awesome guy defensively but I absolutely hate how he runs his players into the ground.

Mark Madsen. Keep the rest of the staff; finish out the season. Then look for coaches as soon as the season ends. This season has to get ugly really fast for us to consider getting rid of Byron, though. It's heading in that direction though, unfortunately.

Mark as an interim, no. I don't mind keeping him around as an assistant, but he is in no way shape or form, a head coach.

Agreed. We need a modern coach. The likes of Spoelstra, Brad Stevens, etc. These guys are in touch with the game, are good on both ends, intelligent, and don't let their ego get in the way of what's best for the team. Essentially, all things opposite byron.

Seems to me Byron and the Lakers are embarrassing themselves plenty already. I don't see how that could possibly factor in. The PR fallout is already here, the Laker brand is being dragged through the mud right now. Not sure the firing is going to really do much more damage. I think the reception by anyone who has seen the Lakers play this year would actually be pretty positive. This would also partially depend on who they are targeting to replace him in the short-term or otherwise. When the team is setting historical lows for the franchise, you don't count pennies about how many coaches you're paying...you right the damn ship no matter what.

At the beginning of the year, I felt pretty strongly that Byron would make it the whole season. But the climate seems to be changing. Unless things change starting tonight, 1 win this month and 2 to 3 wins by the end of the year are both possibilities. I'm not sure Byron can weather that with the majority of the media and fans clearly turning on him.

To quote David West from a page or two back, pride is a dangerous thing. If they aren't worried about looking like a joke for firing yet another coach this soon, Byron would have been fired already. They put on a ridiculous show when he was hired, trotted out Laker greats, acted like this was a return to glory and the Laker way. That's fresh for me, and I'm sure for them, if pride over that doesn't factor in I'd be shocked.

I can also see pride in denial form being a factor. Jim and Jeanie sitting back like, eh, this is no big deal, it's a learning process, a rebuild, growing pains, Byron knows what he's doing, we're still the mighty Lakers, etc, etc, etc. SHOULD pride play a factor? No, but come on, it has to, these are human beings and they aren't used to looking like a joke. Getting defensive, digging in their heels because of that, being deluded enough to think Byron knows what he's doing and is actually toughening up Russ, I can see all of these things going on right now.

We look so incompetent lately, good luck attracting FA's. LA "glamour" hasn't been enough for few years now.

Ohoho now things are getting serious. Even Lakers mouthpiece John Ireland completely agrees with Michael Smith. Unfortunately Mychal Thompson is being a complete boob and defending his boy Byron.

There are rough seasons, and there's this hot garbage. Never in my entire Lakerhood have I ever just felt the need to change the channel because of how embarrassing the coaching and play has been. Never.

I understand lack of talent and injuries, but this is just flat out, stubborn. The coaching is just as erratic as Mike Brown and MDA were. Honestly, what's so damn hard about standard rotations and playing players in the correct positions? Riding the hot hand or calling a timeout and making adjustments/subs in a timely manner? Simple. @$%@#$. Coaching.

This is making the Smush/Kwame years look like gold (granted we had a prime Kobe), but still.

Byron wore Kobe out last year with no clue how to manage his minutes, and now it's clear he's screwed up his back this year by allowing him to shoot 18 3 pointers every game. That's my theory anyway. Long range jacking syndrome. :Magic Brows:

I've stopped taking Mychal Thompson seriously, I mostly listen to him for entertainment purposes. He sounds like that old uncle stuck in "back in my day.." mode.

An ISO for Lou Williams really, that's your f***ing play call for the last shot? The dude has been terrible all game for a second straight game where the hell is Jordan Clarkson? I know he didn't have a great game either, but he still has the ability to get to the paint and draw the defense or create a foul situation. Screen and roll has clearly been our best offense and that should've been the call instead of iso for Lou. Either him or D'Angelo and spread the court with shooters. You're a f***ing moron Byron. Get the f*** away from my team. You're a disgrace.
