He's still averaging 3bpg which absolutely shows how he affects the game. But, it's the plays where he helps but there is no rotation, or where he's forced into a tough cover where we're struggling.

Defensively, I see Roy doing all he can. One guy can't play defense for an entire team though, and that's what he looks like he's being asked to do. And to not play him so much last game so we could play small, yeah that was genius.

What's Roy's contract situation? He can leave next year or what? If we keep Byron, players will run like rats from this sinking ship...

He can leave, but we'll have Bird Rights. Or whatever they call one year rights now.

Yeah he's on a one year contract. But since we traded for him we have his bird rights.

If Scott is serious about playing any D this year, we have to see MWP and Hibbert get steady minutes together. In fact if Ron gets 12 minutes a game, 9 of those should be with Hibbert. I like the idea of playing them in the second half to spring board us for a late game push, even if they're both on the bench for the final ticks.

I don't think Byron even noticed that as clueless as he is

He went 18/10/2/2 on efficient shooting and over 30 minutes a game for the first time this season.

Good on you Roy. Please box out better.

Hard to box out when you're always playing help D in no man's land.

In all seriousness though, yeah he does need to.

I was being a little flippant because he's expected to do all the dirty work with no love, but nobody on this team boxes out except Metta and Larry Nance Jr.

Tarik doesn't, Randle definitely doesn't, Hibbert doesn't do it enough, Bass never did it, Kelly is allergic to it...

Isn't Byron supposed to be good at teaching these kind of old school fundamentals?

Isn't boxing out part of D/rebounding which is also allegedly Byron's forte?

Yes it is, but Byron is clearly in panic mode right now for a win/to feed Kobe's desire to take over. He's not doing the things I expected of him: teaching the young players and fostering a defensive and chippy mindset. What's he's fostered so far is confusion.

Still huge props to Hibbert for even TRYING to do all the dirty work while the rest of the team (besides Metta) continues to screw up defensively, not board, and not hustle.
