Magic will start saying that with a group like this it doesn't matter who the coach is, watch. But the facts are, when Phil came back in '05 he took over a team filled with Smush, Kwame, Chris Mihm, Luke Walton @ SF, names like Brian Cook, Vlad Radmanovic, Devean George, Medvedenko and Aaron McKie in backup roles yet we made the playoffs '05-'06 & '07-'08.

Yes Kobe was in his prime and we had Odom but in '04-'05, essentially the same team (and including a prime Caron Butler just that season) with Rudy T and Frank Hamblen coaching went 34-48, 4th in Pacific Division.

So Phil was good for about 10 wins and the playoffs on a crap team and as soon as he got that 2nd piece in Pau he was able to extend that to 30 more wins. A good coach should be good for some wins vs a mediocre coach. Byron has a healthy team with a lot more talent than last season. We just got beat by the bottom of the west last 2 games and we have a lot of bad teams to face here in the beginning of the schedule.

So is it unreasonable to set a minimum number of wins in the next 15 games for a "keep your job" situation for Scott? It's much more gracious than we gave Brown who came off a 41-25, 1st in Pac Division 2nd round playoffs season and got canned after going 0-5. Not a 21-61 historic catastrophe.

Then I would have Black at 5 and Kelly at 4. Look how Iggy accepted coming off bench for the greater good with GS! Why can Byron not just tell Bass and Black that whoever is best matchup against the 2nd string center of opponents (when Kelly is in the game) is going to be on the floor? Otherwise sometimes it should be Black at 5 and Bass at 4 and Kelly on the bench.

When Kyrie Irving was healthy and available, Scott rarely ran a play in end-game situations. He’d simply put the ball in Irving’s hands and tell him to go make a play while the other four players spread the floor around the baseline.

Rather than bring Irving off one or two screens or run some sort of motion play, Scott said he wanted it this way so Irving could see the entire defense in front of him and be able to react to any oncoming double teams. Sometimes it worked brilliantly, other times it did not.

Scott’s use of Irving this season has also raised questions. He typically plays Irving the entire first and third quarters and the second half of the second and fourth quarters. The only time that changes is if Irving falls into foul trouble or if the game is slipping away early in the fourth quarter, in which case he brings Irving back sooner.

“What other star in this league doesn’t play until the final five minutes of the fourth quarter?” one member of the organization asked recently.

    Defense struggles

It’s at times difficult to decipher the Cavs’ defensive system. Scott talks about core principles, such as never leaving shooters open in the corners, yet it continues to happen. The Cavs have struggled for three seasons to defend the pick-and-roll, opponents’ top players are often left wide open and the rim always seems to be left exposed any time the Cavs start switching defensively.

Part of those issues can be excused to the team’s youth and inexperience, but not all of it. The Cavs’ defensive numbers are regressing. Opponents shot .475 against them in Scott’s first year, improved that slightly to .467 last season before watching it swell to .477 this season.

In the past three seasons prior to this year, 20 teams have allowed opponents to make at least 47 percent of their shots. Of those 20, only one has made the playoffs. The New York Knicks were the sixth seed in the East in 2011 after opponents shot .472 against them — and the Knicks were swept out of the first round by the Boston C Bags.

No wonder his players love him. He treats them like children, and punishes them for ridiculous stuff, this is not the way to run a team of grown men, pro ball players.

Byron takes no blame for anything. I can't say he makes me miss Potato Head or Pringles, but the disgust is on the same level. He must go.

Lead cut to 8, our young players (Randle and DAR) putting the team on their shoulders playing their best stretch of basketball......

Byron takes both out, puts in that crap front line of Kelly/Bass and we are instantly down by 15+ AND THEN HE LEAVES THEM IN LONGER. Absolutely brilliant dude. And you need 12 more games to figure out that doesn't work? This is going to be a long season, the incompetence is off the charts. Not only do we lose the game, he takes a giant crap on the confidence of DAR and the dominance of Julius Randle.

About to go Andy Dufresne in Shawshank and write a letter every day until changes are made. This is ridiculous.

Byron is just an idiot. Doc Brown is right. We were back in the game thanks to Russell and Randle and then he benched them both for what is easily our worst line-up.
