Yes...that was one of the highlights for me. Garnett tried to bait him into getting thrown out but Randle wasn't having none of it instead throwing a small retaliatory elbow to get him off.
For the second game of his career (even less actually), I thought he played really solid. I think he is going to be good.
Randle did well. I liked how he took the ball off the glass and just took it up the floor. As he did so, the ABC announcers spoke of how the guards never clapped for the rock but filled the lanes for him instead. Reminded me of a past Laker great... Not that one but Odom.
Game 1, showed promise, showed smart toughness, now get in the gym every chance you got and work on your mid range jump shot. Without it he'll struggle offensively...defensively he is limited because of his 6'8" stature but works hard...I think by the end of the year he and Clarkson will be the leaders of this team...how will Kobe handle it?
He's not afraid .. He was going for the GW ... until Kobe took this terrible timeout to get his ... which he didn't
^^^ Are you being sarcastic or serious? I thought we should have called timeout immediately, as Kobe was, why the ref ignoring him, giving us 8 seconds to work with. Randle had just almost turned the ball over trying to drive it himself and luckily it rolled to Kelly. Going all the way again, rushing with so little time, felt like a foolish rookie mistake to me. Have to call timeout there, only if you're tied can you afford to push it and take a chance to catch the defense off guard.
Randle had KAT backpedaling ... He threw up a shot as he heard the whistle ... not losing the ball to Kelly I can live with a transition opportunity against the Wolves "defense" ...
Pretty much played Towns even or was tad more impressive (1 turnover) in the Peeps' ROTY competition. 15 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists & 1 TO in 30 minutes on 5-13 shooting, 5-6 FT and KG stare and smack down and punk with inbound pass off his back vs Towns at 14, 12, 1 & 3 TOs in 32 minutes on 6-10, 2-2 FT. Nice 1st game performance from Julius (can't count last year's game with the early injury)
I'm sorry, I meant to say on the previous possession he lost the ball while rushing 1-on-1 and it went to Kelly, left that statement out. I still think he was rushing again and that's not smart ball, I always call timeout there when down and not tied.
Byron should have called timeout, but like all good coaches, he puts that privilege and responsibility on his players to help them grow and figure it out. Very Philesque actually. I'm starting to see just how brilliant Byron really is. We have a steal on our hands, and I have to apologize on behalf of the franchise and fans everywhere for being too hard on him while he's had no talent or experienced players to work with. I'm sure this has been terribly stressful on him.
yeah, that shot wasn't going in, and there wasn't going to be a foul called. lakers got a better shot out of the timeout. as for towns/randle, towns looked better. but he was the #1 overall pick for a reason. during the draft i thought the difference between him and the rest of the draft class was being exaggerated, but after watching him against pros, i think i was wrong. he's really good. already. this doesn't mean i don't think randle's good, though. he just has a further way to travel towards stardom.
Honestly, I was okay with them going with it without a timeout. Doesn't let the defense set. But either one of two things should have happened. Byron should have called an immediate timeout, or Randle should have started going as he got the rebound. Things to work on.
Boogie and Julius bumpin' and talkin' could be interesting ..... Don't do anything rash young man to get yourself suspended. Talk to Ron Ron about that.
Randle needs to be more aggressive offensively, but he played sixteen minutes. I mean really? Ryan Kelly shouldn't be playing more minutes EVER. We played D'Angelo some in garbage time why not Randle? This team clearly isn't winning anything this year so it's gonna be all about development of these young guys.
Byron needs to step out in faith with a set lineup, and then let the play of his people determine changes. Starters Hibbert Randle Kobe Clarkson Russell Bench Unit Huertas Lou Young Bass Black Depending on Matchups or game out of reach either way.... Kelly Brown Metta Nance Jr. Sacre The second unit are all vets. Youngins and Metta and scrubs on Group 3. Make Kelly, Brown, and Nance earn their time, but not at the expense of the starters. At the expense of the Bench unit or depending on matchups. This doesn't seem complicated Byron. :Headpoint:
