    or at least they should consider it. They have a 93 million dollar payroll without him right now, the salary cap is 70 million. He wants 25 million!!!

    If they sign him, they would pay an astronomical amount in luxury taxes. With Love back, Varejao back, and a full season of their new 7 footer, do they really NEED him back? Is there room for him and enough minutes?

    I would flip him for assets right now to keep their train moving for years to come. Load up on draft picks or cheap talent, and maximize his worth. I doubt it ever gets higher, and someone will massively overpay him as an undersized PF free agent next year. And Cleveland simply can't afford it and be responsible at the same time.

    It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Cleveland has taken care of their own and handed out absurd contracts to the likes of JR Smith, Shumpert, and others. At some point, the penalty of signing him just isn't worth it.

    They can and they can lose money as a franchise, blame the players, and push for a hard cap in the next CBA negotiations while blaming fiscal responsibility on the players lol

    What's your motivation for helping chumps Gilbert and James out here with good advice? I say give the man what he wants and then wait for LeBron's turn to "break" this year. All that money....all those penalty taxes with the repeater tax not far behind. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

    The league also negotiated TV revenue to keep showing up even if there is a work stoppage. League has a TON of leverage right now, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is a stoppage again.

    Thompson isn't worth "close to max money" that he's asking the Cavs for. I doubt any other team is interested either at that price.

    His stats are almost identical to Ed Davis...their age isn't that different either. I would argue Davis has better stats and better defense.

    Its amazing to me how this unfolds...

    For these stats on a 36 mpg basis along with advanced stats which I'm not listing here, Davis trounces Thompson, leading in virtually every category. Notably, his overall lead in production is captured by a higher PER, while leads in TRB%, AST%, STL%, and BLK% suggest that Davis is having a more tangible impact on games than Thompson.

    The box plus/minus stats are also heavily in Davis' favor. These numbers are especially relevant as they control for the quality of team, unlike traditional plus/minus. In other words, Davis would have a poor traditional plus/minus because the Lakers were not very good, but box plus/minus adjusts for team success and converts to a per 100 possessions scale so Thompson and Davis can be fairly compared despite the different success level of their teams. Remarkably, Thompson has negative scores suggesting that his contribution is actually worse than an average player, while Davis has a net positive 6.0!

    I'm not even saying Davis is better...I'm just saying there is a case to be made that they are similar. 2 years of age difference cannot lead to Davis getting 20 mio. and Thompson getting 90 friggin million...amazing.

    In 1994 dollars that $7.8 mil of course would buy you a lot more. Also am aware they are in different stages of their careers.

    The guy is a nincompoop. The Cavs 80M offer was ridiculous in itself. He'll be lucky to get 5million in the open market now. Go to Europe or China.
