http://basketball.realgm.com/wireta...jects-Warriors-Four-Year-$64M-Extension-Offer Can't see any reason to even consider beyond that. He wasn't very effective in the Finals at all. Hope he can outperform his current levels, because he seems closer to an MLE player to me.
Interesting. Either he wants to play elsewhere he has a bigger role, or he wants more money. These mid-level type guys like Tristan Thompson and Barnes are expecting to get paid like Superstars with this new TV deal. Some stupid below average team might do so, but all that's going to do is create another New Orleans situation with a team overspending on mediocre talent and forcing the NBA to bail them out of awful decisions.
I like Harrison. He had a good season in Kerr's system, he's young and I believe an ascending talent. GS is attempting to lock him and Ezeli up before the October 31 deadline. The salaries are going to go crazy next year with the infusion of T.V. revenue.
Don't be surprised if the Lakers make a run at him next summer if/when they can't get to Durant. Barnes is a talented kid. He's no superstar, but he's athletic and a decent defender. He's got size, strength, and most importantly Jerry West's backing.
I wouldn't go over $64M/4 years. If that's the case, and that's being generous. We still have to see how Hibbert pans out this year as well.
Lakers have $57 million in cap next year; it has to go somewhere. Re-sign Clarkson, Hibbert if he has a bounce back year, Bass if he decides to opt out, and 1 impact Free Agent. Harrison, Batum, DeRozan? No, I don't think we have a chance at Durant...
He's definitely better than MLE type money, thats short changing him. I think anything around $13-16 million is worth it.
He's asking for Draymond Green money. No reason to give it to him when he's a restricted free agent NEXT YEAR, and still has much to prove. It's not like you need him with your roster pretty well set. I'd say GS is in the driver's seat, and can just choose to match an offer next year if he continues to develop. However, it wasn't until David Lee came in that the series with Cleveland turned around. That's a lot to pay a guy who isn't a bona fide difference maker yet. On a roster with Bogut, AI, Curry, Thompson, and Green all making big bucks, 13-16 million will be hard to justify IMHO.
As a complimentary non alpha B or C level star talent, it might not be a bad consideration. I don't think Golden State can afford him at those levels and the luxury taxes it will likely create. They are smart to want to lock him in now, but if I'm him, I'm probably willing to take the gamble myself as well that someone will overpay me in the next year or two, and offer more PT.
That's a LOT OF money. But, the way teams have been making it rain, he's actually worth more, as crazy as it sounds. How much did Wes Matthews sign for? I chose the wrong field. Shoulda went to the NBA. LOL
He's a good player, but come on now. He's the 4th best player on his team, if you count the playoffs or Finals, Iggy jumps ahead of him. We're talking about a 10 pts, 5 boards guy, for this price, I'm sorry, that's laughable.
It will never not seem crazy to me when the 4th/5th best player on your team is making 16 mil per. That was like 2nd tier star max last offseason.
It will be interesting to see if owners are completely irresponsible with contracts next year or not. This is why they negotiate so hard on collective bargaining. When they are desperate to win, and so competitive, they are trying to put rules in place that protect them from themselves lol. What is scary is the new TV deal pays them whether or not they are playing games. Just about all of the player leverage goes away in that scenario. Next round of negotiations should be very interesting...
Max money next season: >6 = 22.5 million 6-9 = 27 million 10+ = 31.5 million Estimated of course using 90 million as the cap. Those numbers are a jump from roughly 17.5, 21, and 24.5 million. Guys are going to get paid a heck of a lot of money next season. It's not really just a mistake from teams as far as overpaying, it's more like inflation. Everyone's ratios stay the same but the numbers increase. For Barnes, 4/64 million is only 16 million dollars which puts him at a heck of a lot less than the max will be. I don't picture him as a max player, but he's worth probably a little more than 64 million under the new CBA. I'd say he's worth probably 17-18 million or so under the new CBA (which is roughly equivalent to 14.7 million in the current CBA).
