This is the only way I'm on board with this idea. And even that is contingent upon adding in Hibbert and not taking back Rondo. Should go without saying that they cannot have any of the Little Three in the deal either.
Story floated by agents to get people talking. Can't wait to read the article about the Lakers losing out on Lawson. {sarcasm}
If this is legit, there is 2 ways that this is going down.... 1.) The above bolded (If we are considered a non-tax paying team right now total salary 71.1)- In which we would have to trade Young/Kelly/Sacre + One of Brown/Black/Nance - Unlikely given the fact we would have to send out 4 players to a team that has 14 guaranteed deals already. Maybe a 3 way trade, but still that would require a team wanting the garbage that is Kelly/Sacre. - Of the group of 3 that we have to give up - Nance can go for me. 2.) Wait out the Nuggets, who clearly didn't want Lawson before this incident, and hope they buy him out - The likely route - We have the Room Exception to offer him and should be in no rush to trade a bunch of players to a team that could easily buy out Lawson in a week Lawson / Russell JC / Lou / Brown Kobe / Young / Brown Randle / Bass / Nance / Kelly Hibbert / Black / Upshaw I know you aren't for this move @trodgers, but what's the win projection at if I might ask?
If done, and following our gamble with Upshaw, ........ so much for all the Lakers' happy talk about looking always for the great "character" guys. Speaking of "caracter", did Derrick ever have any kind of semi pro or pro career in another country? Too lazy to get data mined from Google today and have to deal with little Derricks popping up on my screens everywhere now ........
Ok, I'll be that guy. I wouldn't mind it. Russell should probably be developed slowly, the Lakers want to compete for the PO's this year, and Lawson helps you right away. Yes, I know all about the DUI's, character issues, coming in late and hung-over for practice; maybe a change of scenery helps.
Perfect mentor for our future franchise 19 year old impressionable point guard. Am I right or am I right?
Man, I hate to say it, but the only way I can really see a justification for this going down is if the Lakers have a deal in place for Boogie already. Remember, can't trade our rooks til August. Perhaps they're looking to ship out some combination of Randle, Russell, Clarkson for Boogie and Lawson in separate trades. I hope not, but our FO is very tight lipped, so who knows what they have up their sleeve. How would you guys feel about this starting five on opening night: C - Hibbert PF - Cousins SF - Kobe SG - Clarkson PG - Lawson Lou Williams, Young, Bass off the bench Idea is to somewhat compete for a year, then make a run at Noah and Durant when Kobe and Hibbert come off the books. Then in 2016: C - Noah PF - Cousins SF - Durant SG - Clarkson PG -Lawson Just a theory, but I don't know how else this really makes sense.
It doesn't make sense because it's probably not true. We have need or room for Lawson anymore. If we'd gotten Okafor, I can maybe see it but even then it's not a great fit. If he gets bought out, sure I'd try to get him then, but only as a placeholder for Russell until he catches up in development. I wouldn't dream of trading anything for him. The Nuggets are thinking of waiving him they want him out so badly. Nobody is giving up anything of value for him and we're definitely not trading the young'ns for Cousins anymore. Not at this point. We can revisit that in February though.
Well, he's certainly make us better, he's a very good player. He's allow Russell to come off the bench and develop with less pressure on him for sure. That said, don't really want DUI guy here, and I absolutely don't want to trade for him unless it was Young, Kelly, And Sacre, but why would Denver want that.
I'm sure Denver would take anything they can get at this point, but they don't even have enough room for those guys and if it comes down to that, I think they'd prefer to just waive him.
Well, I mean if he was waived an we picked him up cheap, I dunno, not much to lose. Doubt his drunk driving behavior rubs off on our underage rookies anymore than Artest drinking at halftime rubbed off on any of those teammates. Lawson is good, throw him in our starting lineup and we're a possible last playoff team.
That's literally the only way I'd want him here. Low risk, high reward. He has a lot to lose if he doesn't shape up so we'll get a good effort. I'm not excited about his effect on the young guys, but we need to acquire talent in any way we can.
Hmm...I dunno. If we weren't signing Upshaw, maybe I'd be onboard. Sure, we need talent, but we're a basketball team. Not a rehab clinic.
