This is a good idea, the old threads were getting dang long. On topic, he's not good. Hopefully there is no "Byron Scott Discussion 2016-2017" thread.

Over/under the number of games before we scrap the Princeton? I'll set it at 25 games. What do you guys think?

Princeton won't work, that's certain... but im not sure Byron is smart enough to scrap it.

^ and how did that worked out for us? I guess he gave it a try, failed and won't do it again. 4 months in to the season is tooooo late anyways ;)

Not making excuses, just stating facts! I'm not saying it's either positive or negative that he waited so long (it's definitely negative but our roster was garbage anyway), I'm just saying he DID eventually scrap it.

Now the roster is a completely different beast. Does it take him until February to adjust again? Does he listen to Kobe/Russell sooner? That's what I'm asking.

Well, he better. If he sticks with something that DOES NOT work (and it won't with our roster), i hope he's gone before we make our move for KD ;).

He'll scrap it. The problem is at which point in the season does he decide to scrap it? 25 to 30 games in and we're 8-10 games under .500 fighting an uphill battle right away.

I'm not expecting us to be great at the start of the season. However, it becomes very disconcerting when you see something that isn't working and you're too stubborn to change it.

Only if there's something better out there. I'm sick of coaching turnover! Unless we see Carlisle come available or something, I'm going to wait on the move... Just don't let Byron in the room when you pitch to Durant.

I didn't think he'd be this bad honestly.. maybe he'll surprise us all his second season, who knows. I hate to throw him under the bus this quick. Can't keep going from coach to coach, when it does come time to sign a legit free agent/allstar they aren't going to want to join a team on the rocks with no vision.

I'm just going to hope he stops with the attention seeking attitude and going against the grain.. it's not 1965 and he's being extremely stubborn, not utilizing the many stats available to him and he's treating these new age skinny jean sensitive type players as if they'll react to embarrassment and ridicule like he and the old school players were taught for years... that's just not going to work and I hope he realizes it and evolves into a coaching style these guys can learn from and respect.

Byron should hire an offensive coordinator type coach.... and a defensive one as well while he's at it.

That was suggested earlier this summer. There were some coaches available that could have helped but I guess potentially hiring or even considering it didn't materialize for whatever reason. It would help, though. I loved what Kerr did immediately; hire top-notch assistant coaches to help mentor, guide, and lead him.

Either way, I may have been wrong. Last night we didn't run as much Princeton in the 2nd half; I don't think we'll see as much of it as I originally thought to begin with; if we do, I don't think we'll be using much of it. It also dawned on me; we were ranked 7th in the league in running pick in rolls. Byron gave Clarkson/Lin a little more leash last year, and I think he's going to do the same with Clarkson/Russell.

    Offensive coordinator - Steve Nash
    Defensive coordinator - Thibs...

Thibs is there for "insurance" purposes should the Princeton fail miserably (which it probably will).

Allow a free flowing offensive system... Keep it simple. Implement a system for defense... Forget offense, we need some work on that defense

Hibbert should help our interior defense.

I mean me neither but the writing was on the wall. He has a below average career coaching record. He's coached many lottery teams and although it's unfair to not give him SOME credit for developing CP3 and Kyrie, it begs the question if they helped elevate Byron?

I don't think it's his "style" that's a turnoff. Every great coach in this league is kind of a d***. Phil, Pop, Carlisle, Riley, just to name a few. You want that in a coach IMO.

Byron's problem is his philosophy on what kind of offense to run. And possibly his X's/O's on defense too. He needs a more modern offense for this team, this generation of players. I think he's a good motivator but he's not the guy you want running plays or coming up with ideas.

You can bet that the implementation of the Princeton will not be the traditional one.

I think the best offense for a diverse group of talented players is the 4-out 1-in Motion Offense. It's a very flexible offense with 6 to 9 typical sets that flex between a Princeton motion/screening offense to a strong side Pick and Roll. I use a base variant of it for the AAU team I coach and it supports a lot of diverse talents.

The Princeton can be modified to support more stationary sets as well.

As for it not working I'm not a supporter of that thought at all. Some 30 colleges use it and another 100 or so use a variant or other motion offense such as the 4-out 1-in Motion Offense. A lot of lower level programs use it all over the place. Motion offenses like it are not antiquated. They rely on precision to be effective. Like the Crain Technique. When done properly no can defend.
