Undrafted Jeremy Lin outplayed John Wall in the summer league in their rookie season. Summer league means dittly squat. Russell will be fine.
What worry me is how catastrophe our offense has looked in the last 3 games

I think most of us were just tired of losing & looking forward to dominating Summer League... Means nothing to me honestly.. i just like watching these kids play.
    Lot's to look forward to.

I guess people are just wanting something to be positive about, he isn't shooting well and he isn't passing well. Regardless, gotta wait and see.

The thing that's hard to swallow is how great Okafor has looked. It's unfair, but it's what will happen the rest of their careers. Okafor looks great right now and that means the microscope on Russell is even harsher than before. Especially since a bunch of us (me included) wanted Okafor over Russell anyway.

It's way too early be concerned or anything. I still believe in Russell from the snippets of greatness we've seen. It's just a tough pill to swallow for now.

Okafor has not looked great to me so far. Solid, but not close to great. He has had way too many shots blocked, too many turnovers, weak D, and poor FT shooting. In other words all the concerns that were anticipated.

I haven't seen a lot of weak defense in Vegas, although he struggled in Utah. His efficiency needs work, but he's getting his shots off pretty well actually. He's averaging 19/11/3 with 2 blocks. I'd say that's pretty great. His TOs and efficiency should improve with more conditioning and experience just like Russell. He's looked like the most NBA ready prospect along with Mudiay, but that was to be expected in this draft.

Solid, but not great I think applies to both Russell and Towns. They've shown flashes of greatness and why they were the first two draftees, but their numbers are far from eye popping.

Towns: 11.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, 0.3 steals, 33% from the field, 0% from deep, 3.7 TOs, and 7.3 fouls in 31.7 minutes.
DAR: 10.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.3 blocks, 1.3 steals, 33% from the field, 12.5% from deep, 6.7 TOs, and 4.0 fouls in 27.3 minutes.

What is Okafor's shooting %, and his usage? His rebound numbers so far are better than expected.

Summer league stat keepers have Okafor averaging 30 ppg and 20 rpg.

Don't know about his usage, probably pretty high, but his FG% is at around 42-43% I believe. I have to think his usage is higher than D'Angelo's. I don't know about Towns' though, those should be closer.

I have to think thanks to this "offense" that D'Angelo's usage rate is probably pretty low.

he averaged 9 boards in college, and rebounding is generally a stat that translates. i'm not surprised. he's looked about like i thought. both randle and russell haven't looked as good as i thought or hoped.

i'm not going to go crazy over summer league in any direction, but i will say that if you can't dominate summer league, it's very unlikely you'll be an effective player in the following regular season. in other words, get accustomed to clarkson starting at pg and bass starting at pf for a year.

Some folks need to go look at other player's summer league stats..

LBJ: 15.8 PPG on 37% shooting, a shade over 7 assists and 4 rebounds per game.
    Wade: 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists
    Rose (2 games): 9.5 points, 5.5 assists 29% shooting.

All three players had a successful rookie campaign.

I am not saying Russell will be as successful as any of the above... but come on, it has been 3 summer league games.

Yes Summer League can mean nothing and yet it can mean something as well. Bottom line, no one's career was predicted from their summer League play. You have Gerald Greens, Steph Curry's, Zach Lavine's, John Wall's and Derrick Rose's.

Curry and Green were excellent in it. Curry is a Champion and MVP. Green is the D-League MVP. Playing well in Summer League doesn't mean anything. Neither does playing poorly.

The positives to take away from Russell are that the things he need to improve on are things that can be worked on and improve. He has the skills you "can't teach". Now he needs to work to put it all together at this level of play.

Russell's vision and ability to deliver the ball in the right spot can't be denied. his shot will come around (though it's been pretty awful). his defense hasn't been bad on the ball (off the ball...yuck). like randle, his inability to use his off hand is hurting him. even in summer league, the smart defenders are sitting on his left. I think a lot of turnovers are coming from this. can't have that as a pg.

I'm actually less worried about Russell than randle at this point, though. one thing that rookies gain is strength, and that's the source of some of his problems right now.

He did well in the 2nd half and I think he's finally getting the hang of playing with his teammates. Cut down on TO's and had great beautiful passes to his teammates that I would've never thought he'd pull off.

He'll take time. The kid's only 19 and was only drafted like last month.

The workout with JC and Nash? He'll benefit from that immensely.

Yeah.... but what's your point? He clearly was a scrub and never amounted to all his hype coming from college, in the league.

    ;) ;)

What do you think? I asked for 5 lbs. Is that reasonable over the summer before league play starts? therealdeal felt it was a little bit much, being so young. I defer to more knowledgeable hit-the-weight-room-advocating Guys.

I have no idea. @therealdeal works in this area, doesn't he? So he would have a far, far, better understanding than me.
