Just a correction that we will have 3 picks, we can trade the 2026 after the draft + 31 and 33 that opens up next year

unless that S&T is executed involving a third team eating something from houston so that our return was minimal.

like if we moved DFS for landale/whitmore, and landale and goodies were routed to a cap space team (or team with a full MLE that they have no great use for), we could execute that, then have the full mle to offer to ayton.

Feel like there's a few teams out there that could use a vet PG like Gabe on an expiring contract, right? Charlotte addressed the position with Sexton, but Detroit is about to lose Dennis and Beasley, Atlanta doesn't have a backup, and Brooklyn could use an adult in the room.

Detroit is a pretty good call. And they have a physical team that can stomach Gabe's shortness. They have a couple forwards I like but I don't know if they're available. Would do it for Beef Stewart too.

We gotta consider we would be losing our PG backup. And not sure CP3 is signing now with Bron possibly in the way out

Detroit has nobody interesting that they would make available. I view them strictly as a candidate to help us clear Gabe's salary.

Gotta get Ayton to make up for this loss imo.

I'm going to take a wait and see approach on what they do with the full MLE if DFS walks. If we turn it into Ayton, a 1-2 punch of Capela and Lopez, or one of those 2 and someone like Bruce Brown...then I'm good with it. If they let him walk with no apparent plan, then that would be a failure.

If this is true it might explain what Trevor heard, but wouldn’t say, Irwin says we lowballed him and told teams his knee was bad to keep his price down

how is 3 three years at a little under the MLE "lowballing" a 32 year old guy who didn't exactly light the world on fire the last couple years?

also, i'm to believe rob went out cold-calling folks saying DFS's knee was bad? like he wouldn't know it would get back to him? who's to say someone didn't tell DFS that happened when it didn't? irwin is just irresponsible and, as always, incredibly biased.

offseason pronounced dead 6 hours before it began.

And Rob as always the world's biggest A-hole who may not even have a plan for what next with DFS walking. Bunch of crap. Sorry. If the shoe fits ..... you know.

This. Based on the preemptive "Rob failed the offseason" narrative, I'm inclined to be fairly optimistic about how things will shake out this week.

i don't know if i'm super optimistic; i just think you can't a) believe everything irwin says or who tells it to him and b) make judgments about events that have yet to unfold.

if all this stuff is true and our offseason is a train wreck, rob will be fired immediately, imo. not sure if irwin just retires at that point or what. but...i don't think this is going to happen.

We could definitely still fail in free agency at which point Rob's job likely should be on the line. I was mostly kidding as a callback to a couple years back when Shelburne had the article that Rob didn't know the salary cap and was "scrambling." There's precedence to assume if the media is piling on before anything has actually happened, then we might come out of it in good shape.

I do wish we would just offer DFS like 3 years at 12 million per and go fishing with the TMPLE and/or expirings for a center like Capela. Seems like the Lakers have pivoted to Ayton at full MLE with DFS departure. Don't love it.

I like DFS for this team, but a 4 year contract for a 32 year old is insane. But also looking back now, giving up those 3 2nd round picks for a half season rental of DFS is not ideal.
