…feels like the same thing he does every year to me.

    See you in October LeBron.

I'd love for this NY thing to happen but I think there's about a 1% chance.

This is a better worder version of what I was going to say. The Knicks are desperate for a championship, and I think LeBron makes a lot of sense for them.

If you were an owner, or a GM trying to please an owner, who was desperate for a championship in the short run, wouldn't you trade Anunoby & MitchRob (& maybe even a little more), so that you could run out Brunson, Hart, Bridges, LeBron, and Towns? That team would be a co-favorite in the East next to Cleveland, and if they can get a good coach, I would favor them over Cleveland as well. No other team in the East is even close.

I would love to get any combination of NY players for LeBron since we will get nothing if we keep him for the lame “retirement tour” season.

i realize i'm likely wrong, but...i can't dismiss the possibility that lebron is getting traded. the whole "the team wants what's best for him" phrasing was WILD.

I'm sorry but this whole thing is strange, let's not act like we aren't competitive - we have Luka Doncic, Reaves and Rui - that's practically as good (if not better if Luka is in MVP form) than the Brunson, Towns and Bridges core and definitely better than Mitchell and Mobley.

I assume Lebron is trying to pressure the team to go all in on trading their assets NOW and not waiting till the deadline or next season. I'm sure he knows this is his last great chance and he wants a good center.

On another note, there is probably some resentment that the front office never maximised the AD & Lebron time frame, we always kept some powder dry and now Luka comes and we'll do whatever we need to for him. Being one of the greatest to ever play leaves you with a big ego obviously...

lol, already seeing the media run with "lebron flexing his leverage again" stuff. no, guys, he gave it up. or rather, we took it from him.

anyone saying lebron is in control here needs to explain why he would opt in instead of signing another max 1+1.

    i know the reason...

he's in control of his situation (to some degree), but not ours. and this is a huge difference from the previous few years.

also tired of the "management bungled the end of lebron/AD years". no, lebron and AD took turns being hurt and brokered a trade for a face-eating leopard. that's what killed that era.

let's all move on! i'm in!

Move on to what? Meh..your Lebron hating has escalated since we got Luka. That man will be 41 this season, I seriously doubt that he is interested into running anything. 1 year contracts from here out, like Jordan finished up in Chicago ,he didn't waive his no trade clause.

We were third in the West with the Old Man and an out of shape / shell shocked Luka. Get a big man and we’re right back in the mix. Get a wing defender too and we’re as good as anyone IMHO.

LeBron opted in to the deal we offered him. I might be more moved if we hadnt seen similar statements in years past from him and his kid wasn’t on our team and his family didn’t love LA etc etc etc.

I’ll believe he’s leaving when it happens.

just not being run by a player who has his own best interests at heart.

my feelings haven't changed at all. the situation has changed. lebron and rich paul understand.

quite possible. one thing you can do in such situations is just do your job and not comment via your agent about other people's jobs.

agree. which is maybe part of why lebron's agent should keep his thoughts on our team construction to himself when FA hasn't even actually started.

sort of. he opted into the deal we offered him last year. notice nobody is saying what was offered this year. i think this is because the FO is letting lebron save face/control the narrative. and that's great. fine by me. as long as he's not wielding that PO, i'm happy.

again, my big point here is that the media is acting like he's gaining power when he lost it. he could have left either way. now, he can't just take 60 million dollars next year to do whatever he wants.

i'd still bet against it; i just think the agent comments (and just the facts of the case) point to a tenuous future.

and to be clear the thing i'm looking forward to (returning to slick's question) isn't losing a player of lebron's stature, it's just closing the book on an era of tiptoeing around a player's whims. i know slick and others will say it's luka now, but that's really underselling just how much lebron has influenced his teams' decision making (not just here, but at every stop).

So what on the last part? The resume is impeccable, and I have yet to see anyone, explain how the team got better, without Lebron James on it. Even at 40, he was one of the top 10 players in the League. If your boy (who we really couldn't find a suitable replacement for) hadn't choked in the Conference Finals, Janes and Davis would have won two rings. Klutch just gifted us another, intriguing young prospect to boot.

So tiresome. Anyway, my point stands: lebron is out of front office juice, and that’s a good thing.

This is a bit of an assumption no? The article says his side were clear there would be no discounts this year and it seems neither side even broached the subject of extensions.

I have to think we’d offer multiple years as an extension if he asked because the business of LeBron is lucrative and it helps our general reputation of looking after our stars.

I think the convo changed. I think we said "look, we are on Luka timeline and we can't do the 1+1 anymore. We need a long-term view on when you're off the books so we make other moves with that in mind" and he said he didn't want to commit.

I think Bron is feeling he is not in control of the franchise anymore and it seems it hurt his feelings and he wants to go somewhere else where he can have that power again.

It would be great if we traded him, we would get a bunch of assets we weren't expected to have.
NY package or Allen + assets coming from Garland going to a 3rd team would really reshape our roster
