Kid looks 19 at times.....needs to really step up the conditioning as we've all said several times. The framework is there now he needs details, repetition and work ethic. Would love to see him get into shape by mid-season and come into his own. Understand it could be a 1-2 year process.

Paging Steve Nash! Time to repay the 27 mill given to you. Coach this kid!!!

DAR would seriously benefit from Nash. I see a lot of similarities between them (court vision / awareness, needle-threading passes, etc.).

I know we know this but D'Angelo has barely played organized ball outside of high school. He had one year of exposure to freak basketball players at OSU. And he kind of dominated there so he never had to work too hard to get his.

The NBA - even summer league - is a completely new beast for him. I'm certain he will improve because the raw skills and framework are there.

Looking at guys like Curry - who had 4 years in college - of course they're going to explode in the league right from the start. Curry also had jump shot that was impossible to guard. D'Angelo isn't quite on that level. He'll work on his shot if he knows what's good for him. I expect him to already be conditioning.

Run more sets with pick in roll, please, Mr. Byron.

Yeah, I don't like D'Angelo off the ball. Doesn't seem to be his strong suit. Let him run the offense and give it to Kobe and JC if they need to bailout in the last 10 seconds.

I think he could play off the ball just fine. Quite frankly, it's just utter garbage that we're running

With his jumper? He's fine off the ball. Give him a spot in the corner and wait for the defense to collapse. He's going to have to be off the ball occasionally with Clarkson, Kobe, and Randle on the team.

Oh I know he can play off the ball, but I think the offense will run a lot smoother with him moving the ball, whereas when it's with Kobe/Randle/JC, it's usually going to be an attempt to score.

A good balance is all I ask because that's what we drafted him for.

That's fine to me though. I want to see Russell off the ball a lot in his rookie year. He needs to really figure out how this league works before he should be handed the keys completely. The best part of Russell is the versatility he provides.

But at the same time, we saw how much JC was able to grow while being thrusted into the starting position and running the offense himself. Those passes he's trying, how pick and rolls are defended, he needs to experience that to get a grasp on reading defenses. Yeah, his versatility will allow him to make the right adjustments and I hope we he'll pick up quickly, but not expecting the world. It took Kobe 3 or so years to finally get a full grasp of the NBA, we have to be patient with h

Precisely. We can't just throw him in the water. Clarkson took half a year to even get playing time. Russell's timeline will already be accelerated because he's all but certain to be our starting point guard. He should get about 20-25 minutes a game with a decent leash and that's plenty for him. He should also have plenty of actions run with him off the ball. He's a good shooter so there's no reason he can't be a floor spacer for Kobe, Randle, or occasionally Hibbert inside. He'll need time to perfect his game. There's no reason we should be fully dependent on him offensively with so many weapons at our disposal. Clarkson, Kobe, Randle, Williams, Young, and the rest will all need their own shots and own stuff run for them as well.

I approve of this post so much (well, kinda have to because I now think it was the correct FO decision in spite of how freaking amazing Jahlil Okafor is going to be I'm also thoroughly convinced) that I have bolded and "biggered" it.

Reminds me of Fisher. A leader among men. That's what you look for in a head coach, a QB, a PG, and a catcher.
