    geez Vasashi,

Really laying the hammer down on all this optimism. Hibbert clearly had an off year last year but to say Zaza overall is on the same level of Hibbert I dont know if I agree with that at all. Considering Hibbert is a huge expring contract and only having to give up a 2nd round pick, which we can buy those as Mitch has demonstrated before, the Hibbert trade is very little risk and the potential to be a nice reward if Hibbert really is able to turn his game around.

    Time will tell...

I wouldn't say we are in no man's land. We have some incredible youth to look forward to and watch develop. Were you expecting to be competitive this year? I would be elated for 35-40 wins this season.

    Umm..... boom....

I actually agree with a lot of this but the Hibbert trade got us to the salary we needed to be at and still gives us the ability to get rid of it next year. That's the plan year after year it seems. Get the next face of the franchise BEFORE building. I'd like to see more strategic signings of players that have 10 year upside rather than 7 days of chasing next years 30 year old diva.

This team will give the fan base hope enough to watch and if everything imaginable goes right maybe we find a future star in our youth.

Zaza is an underrated rebounder, but he's not the shotblocker that Hibbert is. Not even close.

Agree. While the excitement is loud around here, it's not like any of us think we're winning a ring this year. Excited for the young talent. Think 94 Lakers with Eddie, Nick, Ceballos, Elden, and Vlade.

We'll probably lose some close games while learning how to win. But we'll be exciting and in a lot more games than the previous 2 years.

I actually don't think our offseason was that bad. Options were limited and we actually made some moves I think will pay dividends in a couple of seasons. We're still longshots for the playoffs, but we made moves that should improve our defense and offense. Mitch has not been perfect and I was a vocal critic of our free agent pitches, but we did some good too.

This was one of the best offseasons we have had since Shaq.

Happy we officially got Hibbert, but man.. Middleton for 12M is the slap in the face of this entire offseason. I would have taken Middleton on a max contract over Hibbert and Biyombo over Bass.

I'll use the same picture I used in another thread.

We may be in no man's land but we're on a upwards trajectory. Not the same as the past 4 years.

It certainly not as bad as it was for the past two seasons.

I won't be upset if we miss the playoffs third year in a row. I understand we're in the midst of a rebuilding process and that takes time. What's exciting about this coming season as opposed to the last two tank-a-thons is our young core. They look VERY promising.

What I'm hoping for this team is be a fringe playoff team (or close to it), around 35 to 40-ish wins. Make some noise in the West by making the 8th or even 7th seed worry about us, show that we're improving.

I have high hopes Russell / Randle / Clarkson will be damn good and that the premier FA's in the future will want to play with them, thus restoring the Laker brand to its former glory. It's not the ending you'd want to see Bean with, but to see him past the torch in good hands with these young players... that'd be a good enough ending to his career.

He was an RFA so that's a contract he and his team negotiated. Any other offers would have been matched, but they settled on 12 million to stay where he wanted. No problems here. If we'd offered a contract on Middleton, the Bucks would have just matched. It was a waste of time.

Yeah I think there's a very small contingent of Laker fans that think this was the ideal summer, but it ended up being a decent one.

I disagree that we're in No Man's Land. We've now got a handful of players signed for the next few years starting with our exciting young core: Clarkson, Randle, and Russell. We've got Sweet Lou now signed for the next 3 years. We've got Black that we can keep around and he's a solid young player. We don't know the details on Bass yet, but he's a solid addition.

We're clearly moving in the right direction. I'd say we're a good ways through our rebuild even with Kobe on the roster and this team is capable of being competitive this season in a way that last year's simply wasn't.

If our capable passers get him the ball at the right time in his right spots, he will punish our opponents. Can score in variety of ways. Not a focus of course. But if they don't pay careful attention to him look out.

Yeah, I definitely feel like Mitch's wand was in effect this offseason. Yes, we struck out on LMA, and I know he was going to be tough to convince to come here, but I hated the way we got dissed after that first meeting. Mitch and company still have a lot of work to do in luring a max free agent or two to come here and take up the Lakers franchise player mantle.

But, on the other hand I love our acquisitions this year - some real surprise moves by Mitch and you have to give the man some credit. He got the sixth man of the year here in Lou Williams on a very friendly salary, got a top rim protector at Center on a "prove it to me" contract which benefits us greatly, and a rock solid PF to go alongside and mentor our youngster Randle.

The only thing that would stoke me more right now is if we could pick up a decent Vet PG or SF. Other than that I'm pretty thrilled with our young and talented team and I look forward to watching these guys develop.

I was very critical of the FO picking Russell over Okafor, but now that we have Hibbert, I'm very much ok with it as we have a legit center in play. I think he and Roy, Randle and Russell should be able to play well together. The three R-migos.

Dayum, that is some harsh criticism. I don't wanna argue that in-depth as this team's ability can only be shown as the season plays out. I don't think we're a playoff team either, but I don't see us stuck in no man's land, I see us starting to turn things around after hitting rock bottom by Lakers standards. In my universe, Hibbert, Williams, and Bass, is a better offseason than Lin, Price, Davis, Ellington, and Boozer. That's just me though. Gotta start somewhere, I see progress here. I also do see a rebuild, if it's not a rebuild, why is half our roster rookies or 2nd year players? Kobe retires after the season and the rebuild continues with a lot of young players.

I'm not a fan of swinging and missing on stars every offseason, but at the same time it does appear that they are at least trying to home-grow a couple stars in Randle and Russell (maybe Clarkson too), and we have signed a few free agents to multi-year deals now instead of one year vet-min stuff that builds nothing in the long-run. And if Hibbert has a really good season and looks like a piece we want to keep, we have the money and best chance at him now. I see a lot of positives with this team right now that I didn't last season. Never thought Lin was a long-term solution, never thought Price and Boozer were anything but one year signings, wanted Wes gone not re-signed. I see us moving in the right direction finally. If you'd told me before free agency we'd end up with Hibbert, Bass and Williams, I'd have been happy, we never had a shot at Aldridge or Gasol or Middleton, apparently even Harris, guys I really wanted. Mitch absolutely used that wand to not just salvage the offseason, but to actually make it a damn good one. On top of everything else we might also be the team to take a chance on Upshaw and have another steal, another solid gamble by Mitch IMO.

And yet you still liked it, I'm touched.

Lol, it's very easy to accidentally hit the "post reply button on my phone, it's like not even half an inch above my phone keyboard "w, e, r" section. Happens pretty often actually.

I understand it's disappointing year after year of missing out on big name free agents, but we have to set ourselves up to try rather than burying ourselves with stupid contracts and not giving us the opportunity to.

The biggest downfall to losing in free agency is ultimately tied to Kobe's decline and the state of the Lakers. Not because no one wants to play with Kobe, not because no one wants to play in LA, but because these big free agents are in their prime and want to join a competitive team. Simple as that.

We have no choice but to play the "We are the Lakers" card because that's all we had. Can't blame them for that.

Getting Hibbert is not the end of the world. He could prove that he is an all star again and we just made out with just sending out a 2nd round pick. If not, all we sent out is a 2nd round pick and not a first. We try again in 2016.

The silver lining is that at least we have a plan to go after free agents rather than "getting by" with some middle of the pack guys. In the meantime, we've scooped up a lot of young talent by ways of the draft and we're ready to rebuild.
