First, “sucks” is just a broad term, it’s just easier to say than to specify what exact level said player is at right now. We didn’t say washed, we didn’t say garbage, we didn’t say awful, those things all mean very different things. In this context sucks just means they aren’t helping much here and don’t fit our need.

Aside from that it’s not just about the stats, it’s about the role, what sort of player the are, what shape they are in. Right now Jonas is a slow, stiff, non-defender. Hayes also isn’t much of a defender, but he can block some shots because he’s a high flyer, and he’s a lob and dunk threat. Drummond is not that, Len is not that, most available are not that. I would take Len though, over Drummond for sure, for reasons Darius lists here

I’d take Williams back, just have the NBA amend the trade. Hornets get Cam and Wood and a 2nd, no first, no Dalton, no swap.

Charlotte’s just going to embarrass themselves even more if Williams medical problems get confirmed by the NBA.

If not, I’m wondering what might come out of the investigation that hadn’t been suspected or speculated about.

I'm intrigued...I just found it odd, that we specifically said, that it wasn't his back.

Charlotte could have backed off, but they didn't. Saving face? Imagine the face you are going to lose, if medical tests show, multiple health issues present, that you failed to divulge, during the trade negotiations.

This is now being proven, as a fact, not a rumored accusation. This could get juicy! Nasty...

I feel bad for Williams, this could end up costing him a lot of coin. Dalton isn't going to be affected in that manner.

Len sucks but sometimes you just need a guy for a certain matchups to eat some minutes.

Can he guard Jokic without embarrassing him left for 10 to 20 mpg is basically what you're hoping to find. Outside of Jokic
OKC- Lakers matchup real well with their non physically tough bigs
JJJ - kind of scares me without AD but then I remember Lebron gave him a tough time, DFS matche up well with him
Sabonis - same thing Lebron f***ed with him when switched on D
    Jokic - need Len
CLIPPERS - Len could be useful as Hayes get pushed around by the ex Lakers
Houston - Sengun? Feel like Lebron and DFS should be fine here as well if Hayes gets cooked

Oh I agree that there is a chance this goes their way but it’s really really hard for me to imagine us pulling out of this deal if we didn’t see something legit. We needed Williams and on paper he’s got upside.

What we gave up just is not worth lighting up our reputation like this would.

I don’t know how much of his actual injuries we learn given various privacy laws and that’s an interesting aspect of this as well.

It's just a little funky, that we supposedly, would have went through with the trade anyway, if we could have amended it. I'm just curious, as to what we wanted it scaled back to.

I didn't read it as, we found something crazy and just said no thank you period. This could get interesting if more details come out.

I only see Jokic as the problem without a center but no one can stop him anyway, I still think it’s 50-50 series with a healthy LUKA and Bron

I'd take Lebron/,Luka over Jokic/Murray in a score fest. We still have Austin and Rui.

i'm really surprised charlotte's bothering. are they trying to get the league to allow an amended trade?

is it an elaborate face-saving maneuver in which they had their own medical team evaluate and found nothing?

IF the latter is the case, why not just be happy you still have your apparently healthy young center back? doesn't smell right to me. i really don't think we'd pull the plug on this trade without something pretty bad showing up in that evaluation. we really hamstrung ourselves for the rest of the year by doing it. harmed a relationship with our only remaining prospect, too.

honestly, nobody we can get can guard jokic without embarrassing themselves. what we've needed is a guy who won't get bullied on the boards or encourage people to go to the rim at will. 15-20mpg of this to complement hayes's 15-20mpg.

drummond is having by far his worst year as a pro, box scores be damned. he's been nearly unplayable.

there's limited data on len because he's barely played for three years. that probably constitutes data itself, though, and is concerning. in limited minutes last year and this year, his defensive on/off looks quite good and offense quite bad, but again, super small sample.

i'm not sure just promoting koloko isn't preferable to these options, tbh.

your jokics, etc., are just going to kill us, and we'll have to find ways to kill them on the other end (putting them in endless 1-5 pick and rolls with luka is a good start).

I truly feel like our big guy just has to not be awful out there. If he can understand his role, play with good energy and not make dumb plays then we can manage given the production we are getting across the board from everyone else.

My first thought (or hope) is that they want the league to change the rule and allow the amended trade.

My thought is that I can see a scenario where you actually do your due diligence and a guy looks fine and you make a trade. The other team gets him and they have a more comprehensive screening or just check for something else that you don’t for whatever reason and they find something there that spooks them. Now you look bad for not disclosing something you may legitimately have not known was there.

I was always under the assumption that there was some universal screening that all teams due but now I don’t know. If there isn’t then there should be and all teams should adhere to it. Also could see using a third party league approved doctor/clinic.

I also think it is fair to allow teams to rework an agreed upon deal after the trade deadline in instances like this.

What the league can’t have is teams scared to pull the trigger on last minute deals for fear that they could get stuck with a lemon.
