I have a feeling he's going to be the backup 5 and not a starter for a bit. That's how Jersey used him as defender and a ran 5 out offense. Doubt they're going to mess with Rui and Max with the way things are going. Cam probably has earned 10 to 20 mpg as well. I'm not a big Sexton guy but with Dlo gone and the Lakers needing a playmaker to replace him and backup big, I wouldn't be surprised with a Kessler/Sexton move now. You can make the salaries work and you don't have to give up Rui and Max to make it happen. Shake/Gabe/Sexton/AR/Max backcourt Lebron/Rui/DFS/Max/Cam forwards AD/Kessler bigs Probably lose Cam, one of the small guards in the playoffs to get a 9 man playoff lineup
We shouldn't get too carried away, over beating the Kings and Warriors, to fuel our recent win streak. Those two teams aren't very good right now. We brought in DFS to replace Rui in the starting lineup IMO, that's not a bad thing either , Rui would be better off the bench. If you are talking Sexton/Kessler, I'd trade Rui and JHS. I just can't see Ainge taking Vanderbilt back with some salary filler scraps. Being realistic, if we traded for a playable 5, the 4 room just got extremely overcrowded. Someone has to go in order to secure that 5. I doubt teams will be eager to accept Vando as the centerpiece of a trade, considering his recent injury history and contract You have to give up something of value, in order to receive the same.
yeah, that's not happening. my fear is that pioneer is right and DFS is going to be playing some backup 5. that really hasn't worked out in the past, and there's no reason to think it will now. the guy is 6'7" 220. this is the size of the center on my jv team 25 years ago.
Yeah that 5 stuff is not the move. I get the thing about him holding his own, on occasion with a switch or something. I definitely wouldn't go in planning on him at 5 , as some kind of scheme though. AD would not approve IMO.
If he wants to shed a few million of that number for long term security, I'm good with that. From the same piece, there was no shortage of suitors for his services
he'll be 32 when he signs this deal. maybe he takes 3/30? don't think there are many cap space teams out there to offer bruce brown type deals (short-term overpay to use as trade asset), and i'm not sure how many full mle teams will be willing to go more than 2 years on someone his age, either.
I would hope, with Hayes back, that there are no DFS at center lineups. Play him at the 4. With Gabe out, Milton/Dalton/Cam/DFS/Hayes . Shot creation level of that lineup though.. low.
He was the only player with a + in the +\- category. Using box scores to gauge his performance is an exercise in futility. There were several possessions where it was clear that he brings defensive versatility we lack.
DFS isn't going to wow you with the box score. i don't think game 1 of the new team against what's been the best team in the nba is a great gauge of anything.
He's not a box score player. But I really like what he brings to the table. He's always moving, sets screens, flares, off ball movement, cuts and crashes the glass. He's an ideal fit with AR, Bron and AD. He'll start eventually and be a lock. He really improves our physicality on defense, we are a better team now.
We were down big in the first and he helped us get back in the game and made it close. I loved his energy and D. Rui was useless last night.
This kind of effort most of the game, plus hit a couple threes, does not need the ball at all to be effective. I like what he brings, as we talked about some in GameTime, could see him starting instead of Rui at some point. Not a perfect game by any stretch, still finding his role obviously, but getting better by the quarter.
Great second half by DFS tonight. Knocked down those open corner threes as expected and had a really nifty reverse layup as well. Good boards, solid D.
