This guy freakin sucks. He may find a gig in Europe but even if he's traded, he's out of the league in 2 years.

rob tried to be the smartest guy in the room with this pick

the fact that they're already giving up on him speaks volumes

Tough luck with the injuries, he's in the same boat as Max. It would be better for him to go to a bad team, where he would play a lot, then you would get a better evaluation of what kind of player he really is. The margin of error is extremely small here, we can't afford to just gift young guys playing time.

I don't care what Toklat says!!!

This is great news. Not that we blew a pick on this kid, but that we’re willing to admit it and move on from him, hopefully in a trade. Doubling down on the mistake doesn’t help anything, so I like that they’re willing to just move on. But man, he must be reeeeeally bad behind the scenes if they went this far.

WTF man .... he didn't even play in SL as he was coming off of back surgery, and not available to play until pre-season games. Come on. What team would have wanted him sight unseen?

Yeah, it's a wash and a wasted pick. JHS became superfluous once we kept D'Lo and signed Vincent.

Whitmore, Jacquez, Podz would've been better had that been the FO's plan all along to go with vets for PG.

3 PG is a bit much when we already have LeBron and Austin. Rob loves him some guards though.

I also look at this as an admission that we got this one wrong and just moving on. I’m good with this especially if it helps us make a move.

"If it helps us make a move..." that he's included in a trade that could help us win basketball games.

Again, though, this is another move on the the margin we totally f****** up. This was the second first-rounder we squandered in the last 4 years. The other was the first we threw into the Russ trade.

Maybe that's why Rob is careful about including any future draft picks unless it's for an impact piece.

    Still, this sucks.

Wrong. This was Buss’ pick. Rob congratulates him on the pick.

There’s a lot to blame to go around but I blame @LTLakerFan the most for insisting on glorifying this pick:Laugh:

Yeah. It sucks that there were several players available that could’ve helped us and we got it wrong.

My main thought at this point though is just that we can’t go back and redo the pick but maybe this does make him more attractive in a trade for someone who can contribute

these two things. i'm still waiting for the story here. it's actually a bad choice even if he sucks as bad as everyone thinks. i still think it's a bit early to just throw in the towel--we're watching two guys we gave up on contribute to a conference rival right now. players don't all come out of the box ready to go.

the only way this makes sense is if we're trading him this year, and we already know it. this seems unlikely to me, as the earliest i expect any deal to be made is mid december, but we'll see...

yeah, we're just a bad developmental system at this point. i think that's all about lebron and the clock, but it is what it is.

but don't draft 19 year olds if you're not planning to roll with some of the developmental process--and yes, that includes gifting playing time.

or we've been impatient again, and this is another player who is successful elsewhere.

yeah, not really sure where the "rob overruled everyone" story comes from. that's really not his style. i would buy that he made the final call based on input from his folks. but that video definitely makes it look like it was buss's choice.

i just hope like, ten lessons were learned from this experience.

i know everyone's obsessed with whitmore because he dunked or something, but the real obvious one that got away was jacquez, simply because he played right in our backyard and was a senior who was ready to play right now. that's been our successful late first round pick, so why'd we move on from that basic formula? i mean, our supposed target was actually kobe bufkin, another 19 year old who was going to need time to develop. we clearly have zero patience for this right now, so why not go with the chalk?

Yeah. Jacquez is the head scratcher for me for the reasons you state

But honestly we just whiffed IMO and that just happens when it comes to drafts.
