If drafting Bronny gets us the full MLE, we smoked this draft. LBJ has to know the time is NOW. The friggin Mavs just won the West. With a better roster we can too.

I suggested here months ago that we could arrange to draft Brony, and in exchange LeBron sign at a reduced price…. Crickets…..

It has really seemed from the past that he wouldn't do something like this. Good call Barns. I hope he does and we can land a good player.

before dlo opted in, lebron could take a very reasonable paycut to make the full mle available. at this point, it doesn't make sense. though he should consider taking a small one to keep us with fudge room vis a vis the second apron. when he's agitating for star trades in january again, they may be literally impossible.

i think as it stands, signing christie even to a low-level deal (~7 million) basically puts us in second apron danger.

i'm guessing if we make any trades, there will be a priority on bringing back less money.

this is why i've pitched rui for stewart. it shaves 2 million off the cap. maybe ask for a couple seconds back.

IF we deal with utah for sexton (or markkanen), i'm guessing we'll ask them to take something beyond dlo off our hands, and they can afford to.

detroit can also take back extra salary if we need them to. brooklyn can't, though we could structure deals with them that brought in less than we send out.

anyway, in all cases, lebron taking just about 5 million less could help create some buffer for us. i'm guessing this is under discussion, and he won't sign until all moves have been made or possibilities exhausted.

the press will act like he's holding it over the team, but i think he's working with the front office here.

They can only take back less money per the CBA.

There's a galactic sized divide between taking $5m less a year or so (lets get m more exteme and even say $10m) vs taking the minimum. Let's not be silly here and a minimum contract is what you were talking about.

Even a $5-10m cut would surprise me. But it's a smart play by Bron where he puts pressure on Rob and takes roster failure out of his hands. He now can say, well I was willing to take less Rob just couldn't land the plane.

Yeah, Klay, one of the best shooters of all time? The dude who has Laker blood running through his veins?
    I do!
We aren’t getting back a great two way player for the pittance of a MLE.
Klay still has enough in the tank to do damage in the playoffs.
I’m buying a Klay jersey if he signs.

So you’re walking back your “he’s not taking less “statement? Would he take 20 million less? Or that would never happen either?

He looked real.rough last year. Really don't want Klay especially with DLo Knect and AR.on the roster. Lakers need defensive help and a big now. They have tons of shooting

I'm saying if he takes less, which he hasn't yet, then great. You can only make well informed takes based on history and human behavior. Fact one, Bron has taken as much as possible when he's had the chance unless you're giving him the chance to play with two other HOF'ers in their prime. Fact two, Bron is notoriously cheap. He illegally streams basketball games, he doesn't pay for music services without ads. Fact three, he's trying to pull his money to lead a group that buys a Vegas team.

Those are undisputed facts. So yes, I'll be pleasantly surprised if he takes less. We've already said we'd pay him the max. If you want money and your company will give you the max cause that's what they do, how often does the person in that situation take less than offered.

Again, this could be pressure and an angle. Just like how he distanced himself from the JJ hire. What's a worthy move for a paycut for Bron? If it's PG, Klay, DeRozan obviously we can't get them if they're taking the max and then deals in the $20m range (just pulling a random number). But technically Bron tried to do his part. Rob looks like the bad guy.

I'm not sure Jonas or someone of that ilk is enough for Bron to turn down all the cash
