I don't get it. I've played both football (I refuse to call it soccer) and basketball my entire life. My back and my lower extremities suffered much more stress and injuries through football. Nash is gonna last 2 minutes.
I don't care what he does with his life now, he's not our problem anymore, that's his choice. If he wants to stick around and mentor our guys, great, he should do it for free, least he could do.
I really don't get why I still hear Nash's name come up as working out with JC and some of the younger guys. He's not under contract to coach. Is he just doing the organization a favor? I've never really heard him say a thing that made me think he liked being a Laker or like he felt a part of the organization other than thanking Sacre (of all people) when he retired. No hint at loyalty either. I would love to sign him up as a developmental or shooting coach for our young guards because we should get something out of that huge money pit we called his contract, but as it is right now, this is a really strange relationship.
Ideally, sure... but if he's not contractually obligated, I don't think the workouts will be as frequent (as we'd like).
From what I've heard out of Shelburn and Ireland, Nash really did WANT to be a great Laker. He came here willing and he wanted to do what the fans wanted: win a ring with Kobe, Dwight, Pau, Artest, and Jamison. The contentious relationship is actually with the fans, not Nash. I am as angry with the way it all went down as anyone, but I'd love if he remained part of the organization as a coach. We saw great improvement from Jordan when he trained with Nash. I'd love to see development like that for Russell.
I would love for him to help out our guards but man if he goes and plays soccer.... Not gonna sit well with a lot of people. How can one be so broken that they can't play basketball or travel with the team or just be there with the team but can still go play soccer.
Soccer? So....is it finally official that this dude came to the Lakers intentionally to screw us over and collect a paycheck?
Can we just move this thread out of Lakers discussion? I was scared he would come back in any kind with us :O
i still somewhat believe that but don't say anything when i said this on CL everyone came after me with torches and pitchforks

That's ok, we don't need anyone teaching our young guys how to completely avoid the team for months and months when injured. Or how to screw a team over by staying on for money when not physically able to play anymore. Or anger fans with comments about playing for the money and writing an article making excuses and calling us haters basically. He can teach that stuff to Curry and Thompson now. I really don't think a lot of his skills are coachable anyway, other than maybe shot form and how to keep defenders on your hip and get to the hoop with no athleticism. The rest was natural talent and vision.
Well this bites the proverbial big one. He lives down here by the beach, or did anyway, and the natural fit was for the Lakers to sign some sort of similar deal with him. I hate this. Why did it not get done? So much for treating him with all that class and everything. I thought it was a done deal for all the just mentioned reasons. Unless .... was Jerry West and brain trust smart enough to know his value and offer him a lot more money than the Lakers would have, if they were even thinking about it. Damn it! :kobetabernak:
