That's the main reason I wanted him here. If Cap believes in this guy, who am I to disagree. Cap has some success in teaching Laker big men including Pau. His influence on Hibbert is huge especially now that Roy will carry the torch of being a Laker Center.

Wow that's awesome. I knew they trained last year but apparently Roy left a good impression and Kareem has shown some interest in his well being.

If Kareem is engaged with him to this level, I'll start getting my hopes up on what kind of player we'll see this season.

He is huge. Apparently has a crazy work ethic. Is good enough for Kareem to interact with (and that's a tough one to do).

That's more positives than most players in the NBA have. I'll take a risk on that.

Well, I admire Curry's spunk, but what's he thinking?

As I said before, Mitch's wand? Not broken! Other than the Nash trade which obviously proved disastrous, Mitch has been a master at pulling off unforeseen trades. Pau was the best of the bunch, but he also turned Brian Cook into Trevor Ariza! That was one of my favorites.

This trade feels a bit like the Lin one last year, where we got an underachieving but talented player for nothing and took very little risk with potentially quite a bit of reward. Lin didn't pan out so much, but we still got a second round pick out of it.

But Hibbert really has tons more upside potential in that we desperately needed a center, and the fact that he's such a great defensive stopper makes it even better. It was a great Plan B, and Mitch was a boss for pulling it off. Props for that indeed. I don't think any of us saw this coming.

Mitch and company aren't completely off the hook, though, regarding the third straight Free Agency strike out. Yes, Dwight Howard is included. That's three straight years, three straight whiffs.

If we are to believe these guys and their "plan" then they need to hit a home run next year and bring in Durant or another marquee FA. So far they have learned how "Not" to do it. Let's hope they will take these lessons under the belt and build a compelling and effective campaign for the next guy. Whatever it takes, just do it. All will be forgiven if you can pull a marquee FA next summer to add to this very young core.

i don't like to fault mitch too much for the nash trade. that was a desperation move as a result of the cp3 trade veto that they basically had to make in an attempt to be competitive in the west against teams with elite PG's like SA and OKC. obviously we gave up a lot and obviously no one expected his career to basically end in his 3rd game with us but that's just part of the downward spiral that's led us to this point

aside from that, there's no better GM at pulling off trades than mitch. he's yet to lure a big name FA to LA but to be honest, why would any big name FA want to come to LA the past 2-3 years? and dwight was bolting from day 1, he never wanted to be in LA in the first place. LA will be a hot destination again once these young guys can prove they have what it takes to take it up a level in the next couple seasons

Maybe it was a strike out, but Dwight has been hurt for extended periods of time both the last two years. And Melo? I think everyone is pretty stoked that didn't happen at this point. 31 coming off of knee surgery and 3 more years at over 20 million per? Yeah..."missing" on him was actually a Grand Slam in the bottom of the 9th to win the game. That's to say nothing of the fact that Melo probably wins 4-5 more games for us preventing us from getting Russell.

Mitch is an absolute beast with trades. Don't forget the CP3 and Howard trades.
As for free agency, he retained Kobe in 2004, Malone/Payton in 2004, Ron Artest in 2009, and Antawn Jamison in 2012. Not impressive but it got the job done.

I agree with everyone's points - while we have struck out on the big name FA's three straight years, none of them will prove disastrous, and some I freely admit may have been blessings in disguise (Howard, Melo). Add to that fact, LMA was most likely to go to San Antonio from the beginning of FA, and DJ never seemed to remotely consider us (and Marc Gasol actively dismissed us) and chances were stacked against us this time around.

Next year is money time. We do need to get a top tier FA. And if we do, we're in a very good position. Competition is going to be incredibly high though I think so we need to take the lessons of these last three seasons very seriously.

But to come back to Hibbert, since this is his thread, welcome to LA big guy! We are stoked to have you!

What is interesting about next year is that we'll have room for TWO max free agents to pair with some great developing talent. Two max guys teaming up with a group of young studs is a completely different pitch than just pitching one max slot with the "carrot" being unproven potential and Kobe's last year.

Now I'm already curious about FA's next year besides Durant, and can't wait to see the young guys develop.

So we get Hibbert without giving up any of our young core? I approve if that's the case. Now we need a SF.

One of them may need to be Hibbert if he beasts this year. But that's fine with me to have a 7'2" defensive beast in the key for the good Big centers in the league that typically kill us. Save for Pau owning Howard for our first ring of the 2 peat and Bynum when he was still healthy. Makes pissed off 270lb coming into his own Jahlil Okafor, Ebiid, Davis, Cousins, Mosgov, etc, etc..... a lot less problematic. With Upshaw, also a defensive stud to tag team with.
