Guard version would probably be TJ McConnell?

Max making some boneheaded rookie mistakes like almost fouling Barnes on that last minute dunk but overall he's been very very good.
Defense has taken a big step up IMO - he's got excellent recovery and he's anticipating better.
    His rebounding is great
And he's a nice off ball threat both off the bounce and the C&S 3.

They need to him feed minutes for the rest of the season because the type of two way play may make him indispensable for the playoffs where guys like Prince and Vando who are one way only get game planned out.

Ham trusting him to close will be good for his confidence

    Can't do this though...

Know score and clock, could've been an and 1

Can't learn from mistakes if you don't play .

Should play 24 minutes a game

There was no foul, watched it at the Barnes wrist area and that was a good challenge, had he timed to block it, he would be legendary

What's Max's ceiling to you guys?

I think with his frame, he's looking between a Mikal and Tatum built. But don't think he will ever reach each's ability. Don't see him being a #3 star in a team, maybe slightly below of that at best.

That can be relevant in this trade deadline. I wouldn't mind trading him for a roster improvement in the short term. I imagine there may be some GMs high on him and would exploit that

It can work as a pick

absolute ceiling is sg version of mikal bridges, imo. people forget mikal bridges was still at vanderbilt at the same age max is now. max doesn't have his freakish length, though, so that's a limiting factor. but he's a good athlete with good positional size, good instincts, and he's shown flashes of being a three level scorer and potentially a ballhandler in the pick and roll (again, bridges didn't do this that well until after he was in the league a while).

i'm not just throwing him in deals for the hell of it because our team has decided that trying hard is dumb.

I still like Max as a prospect but he's probably 1-2 years from a true rotational player.
He lacks lot of situational awareness right now so he ends up with a bad TO's if he's handling the ball and on defense he looks like he's not familiarly enough to a lot of people's moves so will bite on hesitation/stop go stuff.

Loves his rebounding and he's got a nice bounce but he's still really raw in other words

Yeah I like that comparison, but the shorter wingspan drifts both players' ceiling.
I'm up for trading him as long as we get a guy who's ceiling is higher, like Murray. Wouldn't do it for Rozier, Tyus and alike though.
But he may be our next best trade asset after the 2029 pick and I would capitalize on that

Yeah I think he's quite raw. He will definitely be an established NBA player. But I agree with you he will be at best a good role player.

Not even maybe at best an “excellent” or “very good” role player?

Lonnie killed him last night. He's got the tools but he's got better vertical hops vs his lateral quickness which is ok.

He needs more seasoning and more film work to make up for it. Cam and Vando are much quicker laterally

Yeah yeah sure. When I used good wasn't grading the level of role player, just that he's ceiling is at role player level, not borderline star

I don't think Max will be as good as Mikal Bridges, but it would be awesome if he got there. Bridges is already a borderline allstar, and he's capable of getting even better within the next couple of years.

I see the most realistic best case scenario for Max Christie is probably Danny Green, in the best possible way. The DG who's a reliable 3&D player that you can trust to defend and hit open shots. People may have forgotten how good Danny Green was during the Spurs final championship runs.... but that's a win if Max can become that.

My personal wish for Max is for him to become a lethal lockdown defender that give explosive scorers absolute fits.... think Bruce Bowen and Shane Battier guarding Kobe back in the day. Now that would be something!

Oof. Tough learning reps for him tonight.

    1-7 shooting, 0-3 on 3s

One of the biggest problems he has and it's to be expected with his age and limited experience: telegraph passes. He couldn't cut it as a QB. Just follow the eyes and you'll intercept the pass. The only concern with that is he has done it multiple times in multiple games and doesn't make an adjustment after the first TO. He'll commit the exact same mistake the next play.

the last TO was made even worse with Msx head down and not seeing his guy running hard the other way for a layup, sorta like bron TO n not bothering to get back on D

I think it’s coaching, no need to involve Max in the action up top, let the boy roam the corners, baseline and dunker spot

He's kind of the same with his shots - you know what he is going to do most of the time. two hand dunk, pull up mid range or c&shoot.
Not a lot of creativity around the basket - I think his hops let him get away with this at lower levels of competition.

You can really see it when the scrubs come his athletic ability just pops out at you in the summer league and with the scrubs but against legit NBA competition he needs more polish

Best game in a long time from him: some nice defense and playmaking to go with the shooting
