Ham will never give him up. I heard he serenaded him before running on to the court.

That is an all out offense lineup. We gotta be great on offense because only AD is gonna guard consistently. We'll also struggle on the glass unless AD grabs 15 and Lebron grabs 10.

Just put Vando back in with the starters where he belongs and get Prince the hell out of there and onto the bench please. Let's go with what got us there last year.

I’m glad Ham has had a moment of clarity and got away from his NBA 2K24 starting lineups.

...but at least he realized that Wood can be a valuable member of this team and needs some minutes.

    from Twitter

77 players are playing at least 30 minutes per game this season.

TP ranks 77th in points per game, 74th in rebounds per game and 71st in assists per game.

It's insanity what Darvin is doing with him.

Why is the FO ok with this? Prince is on a one year BAE contract. Rui and Vando are on multiple year deals here each in double digit millions per. Both are impact players, Vando on D and Rui on offense. Prince is a mediocre talent, just ok on offensive and D. He’s averaging 10 points a game in 30 minutes. And he’s not that good on D either. I don’t understand it at all. Just start Vando like last year. It worked!!

I’m fine with Prince starting, but yeah he needs to be playing about 10-12 less minutes a game (with those minutes distributed to Rui/Vando instead)

    Agreed

plus going away from players who contributed to a team making the WCF to prioritize Cam Reddish and Taurean Prince over them is WILD and has no precedent

Here's the thing though ..... if we want, and I think most of us DO, Ham to try the ******* lineup that was MOST successful last season post deadline and into the playoffs, then Vando needs to start in his slot. To be able take on the POA duties and at least "bother" and make work much harder the opposing star PGs. Prince can't. Prince, yes, has done fine as a starter (just needing way less minutes) .... because he's decent on defense and has been our most consistent 3pt shooter, plus is capable of some other things on offense. But IMO DLO and Reaves starting again and allowed to get into a groove again .... is far better for the team offensively. It's better for them and it's better for AD and for LeBron. It "overrides" what Prince has been able to do on offense. And Vando overrides him on defense. But g-dammed Ham man .... has set up his BFF this season in Prince, and he is just loathe apparently to do that and actually bring back THAT continuity and seemingly most effective starting lineup. Jack*** coach for so many reasons.

I agree that we should go back to starting DLo/Reaves/LeBron/Vando/AD, but we need to be honest about that lineup. Before the mix up yesterday I saw a lot of "that's the line up that got us to the WCF" here and on Lakers Twitter yesterday, which isn't true. That lineup was massively positive in the regular season (something like +20 net rating in limited regular season minutes last year) and helped us go 18-6 down the stretch and get the home play-in game, which was huge. But the DLo/Reaves/LeBron/Vando/AD lineup was barely positive in the playoffs, I think it was +0.4 net rating in as many minutes as it got in the regular season.

DLo/Reaves/LeBron/Vando/AD got us into the play in, moving away from that lineup and going with Rui at the 4 and Dennis taking on the POA duties got us to the WCF. We have enough net rating and points-per-possession data at this point to say definitively that Vando is a significant drag on the offense, specifically by clogging the lane and making it difficult for LeBron and AD to get to the rim. The coaching staff recognized this coming into the year, which is why they wanted to convert to a 5-out base look to artificially improve the spacing out there for our subpar halfcourt offense.

I want to move back to the DLo/Reaves/LeBron/Vando/AD starting group because there's familiarity there. Everyone knows their role, and right now we need to focus on racking up some regular season wins before we even think about what will/won't work in the playoffs. But that lineup isn't some silver bullet that we've inexplicably left on the shelf all season. It has real weaknesses when opponents actually gameplan around Vando. I'd hoped we could get more creative with Vando on offense coming into this season, but unfortunately I think his heel injury has undermined a lot of that progress. Hopefully there's still some time to sort that out.

Well .... yeah. I didn't want to retype the whole scenario. But at least it's a start. We know NOW Prince can't cover for DLO and Reaves on the perimeter like Vando can. And they need to play together for a lot of reasons offensively and for locker room chemistry. Plus we don't even know yet, now that Vando "seems" to be approaching health again .... what he may have added to his game over what he had last year to keep that from happening .... played off the floor. HE TOO needs freaking REPs without a short hook. Like Prince seems to have a lock on.

I remember being surprised when I found out Prince signed for our BAE. There may have been some promises.

Well if so that gave the big middle finger to continuity from the get go. I’d like to entertain and think this was not the case as everyone was “talking” continuity … which made all kinds of sense. Ham single handedly, even that hypothetical promise aside, has done LOTS of things to torpedo continuity, injuries also aside.
