Man o man o man... I watched the 2nd half and OT, rooting for the Pistons to break the Dismal Streak against the damned Bags. Pistons players had a body language like they were in a Game 7. How brutal! BOS's local TV announcers, laughing about 27 straight losses. Brian effing Scalabrini. Mike Gorman. (Not bad basketball guys, but classless as all hell, both guys. Eff them.) And DET had some fantastic looks late. Just couldn't knock 'em down. They hustled their a**** off on the boards, out-rebounding the Bags, 57-43. What a disaster. At one point in OT, someone missed their assignment on D and White was standing under the basket, no one around him at all. I just think of some kids like who I was when I was 13, and a hardcore Laker fan, some kid who loves the Pistons. Derrick White is the stuff of nightmares for me, a Laker diehard. 28 straight losses has gotta feel like...your dog died. I dunno. It blows.
DEN beat Ja-less MEM by 37. He be illin', literally. Just saw this: Joker: 26/14/10 in 30 mins, on 11-11 from the field (he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in their Xmas win over GSW), 1-1 from 3, and 3-3 from the FT line. Day-um! (What? He only shot 3 FTs?) Nugs shot 57% for the game and were 20 of 41 from 3.
Yeah, it's kind of funny how every one of the Pistons games now are treating it (at least late in the game) like a game 7 environment. No one wants to be the team to lose to the team with the longest losing streak in NBA history and its about to be in sports history. Surprisingly they're competing hard. They gave it all they had against Brooklyn and Boston. Cade is really stepping up. Toronto, Houston, and Utah are their next 3. None of them are playing great, but compared to a 2 win team... White could've taken a nap and still scored on that play. They completely lost him. Humorous that he's the player DLO wants to be when he grows up because he's nowhere near that kind of player despite a fools gold pre-season.
Cade Cunningham is 4 for 13 but the Pistons are up 4 going into the 4th, in Detroit, against TOR. Both teams came out of the locker room at half and decided to just not play D, combined for 80 points in the 3rd Q. I have my fngers crossed for Pistons fans.
Pistons WIN! 129-127. TOR earlier traded some of my favorite names to the Knicks: the Original Gangsta Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa ("Make sure you wear a cup! You don't want to damage your precious achiuwa, if ya know what I'm sayin' to ya, kid!"), and Malachi Flynn, whose name makes him a magnetic destination, eventually, to the C-Bags roster. Now, on to my DVR'd Laker game against MIN.
Halliburton with 25/2/23 with 2 steals and a block as IND puts up 140 in MSG. Tyrese had a bad shooting night, too: 8 for 17 with 2 for 10 from deep. If any youngster other than TH has come along that would make you think he'd challenge Stockton's all-time assists record, I don't know who it is. This kid...might end up being too much of a scorer though.Wow. Mad skills, thrilling talent to watch. Wish we had him.
to be clear: i can find two or three highlights from wemby that definitely make me say he's an alien/this is unprecedented...just that clip definitely isn't one of them at all. i think the spurs have been so bad that folks are just grasping for stuff when they try to emphasize things like this. he'll have plenty of incredible plays; we don't need to prop him up like we're celebrating preschool art. the announcers on that play "oh look out derrick white! you're on a poster!" he just ran out of the way, fellas. like you do when you're trying to avoid a foul on a breakaway. and wemby just palmed the ball high like kawhi leonard does on almost every dunk he attempts.
DEN @GSW: good, tight game, both teams playing well. Late in the 3rd GSW starts playing out of their minds, build up an 18 point lead, 121-103, with 7 mins and change left in the game. DEN then does what the Lakers used to do: clamp down on D. GSW scores something like 4 points in the last 3 mins, Joker ties it at 127 with 26 secs left, then Curry tries a skip pass that gets picked off with 4 secs left in the game, tied at 127. Time out called by that prick Mike Malone. They set up a play: a Joker 40 footer at the buzzer. Remember those, from the WCF last year? Joker has to shoot, and his form looks gawky and ridiculous: and it swishes. And yet, in this game, it banks in. After the game he credits his teammates for their great defense, and says sometimes when you shoot it, the ball goes in. Great mother of mercy! It was everything I love about the NBA. Right now we have a slightly better record than the GSW but they are far better than us at the moment. I see us more as like...maybe equal to the Wizards, not as good as the Spurs, slightly better than the Pistons. On any given night, though, we might beat the Spurs...or the Pistons could beat us. (Am I disgusted? Yea, you could say that.)
