Yea, Mihalyi's work gets dissed in some academic circles - he was an academic himself - for complex reasons, a lot of them stemming from the "replication" problem and the positivistic- Behaviorism holdover of the 20th century. It's a freaky area of specialty because we're talking about extraordinary mental states where things are all going right, and the history of Psychology - it's a very young "science" - has largely been concerned with describing why things go wrong for people. But I see Mihalyi's work within the "positive" psychology movement: let's study people who do really well and are happy: maybe we can learn from that!
Re: Pistons and their nightmare season: down 22 midway through the 3rd in MIL: gonna be 23 straight losses. I know I might seem sadistic in mentioning how bad they are over and over but really I'm both fascinated and filled with empathy for some kid in Detroit who's a diehard Pistons fan.
I keep bringing up Ryan West growing up with the Lakers and playing a big scouting roll with the Buss kids, then having to go to the Clippers with Pops … and now in pure hell with the Pistons for the past year and a half - two and a half. Ryan was a good dude, feel bad for him.
yeah, i'm an academic psychologist, so i know the whole thing here. i get the criticism of the work, but i also think this kind of work is part of what made the field relevant in the first place. and positive psychology is probably fairly maligned for some reasons, but the basic idea--that we should focus on enhancement as well as remediation--is really important, imo.
Yea, my heart goes out to anyone who makes it to the NBA, only to find themselves on a team that has lost 23 straight and counting. 10 straight losses and you're on a team that's lousy but it "builds character and resilience for the future"; lose 23 straight and you can't even sleep at night. No doubt a few guys went into the game against Giannis, Dame, et.al, thinking: "This has to stop sometime. May as well be now." Then they went into the locker room at the half down 81-56: it's gotta be really rough on the spirit.
Embiid has 40+ pts avg. in the month of December. I wonder how much would Kobe or Tmac score in todays nba... not to mention Shaq
Keegan Murray started in place of injured De'Aaron Fox last night, hit 11 of 11 3s and ended up with 47 points. The Zen-Flow-Zone thing again: Note "black out": "It kind of reminded me of my last year in college," said Murray, the fourth pick in the 2022 NBA draft out of Iowa. "I'd get hot and I would just black out for a little bit, and so everything would just go in. That's kind of what happened in the third quarter."
First and foremost, it's a bad image look how he's talking about the situation to her. secondly and this is what i don't get: These guys know by now that nothing is private. 1) go through your lawyer, manager, agent, handler, fixer. 2) if you want to handle it yourself, have this convo in person. Not via text. Not via DM. Not over the phone. The uglier it is, the more F'ed up it is for the other person, the more likely they are to put it out there for the world to see OR blackmail you with the threat and you have to pay up. Either way, just don't be dumb and maybe be a good person.
At least he's pro choice, "get an abortion lol" They are NBA players, what did people expect from a moral standpoint. Them being or sleeping with hoards of women has been a tale as old as time.
LOL had to look up what’s being discussed here. Haven’t even read the back and forth written messages but Mike and certainly Kobe too couldn’t guard me Guy explained it all. “comments were made ‘in the heat of a moment’ and do not reflect his beliefs.”. There ya go.
Yeah, knowing it happens and actually seeing the convo detailing the flippant, nonchalant approach to the ramifications are different in today's society though. 15. 20. 30 years ago no one knows unless you have a HUGE national profile or there might be some whispers and speculation and even then you know much less than this. But today the woman who has 1.4 million followers puts it out there and not only do they see it but they share it and it gets picked up by hundreds of news sharing accounts and it's everywhere.
right? you read those messages, and the lady is basically telling him (imo): look, j******, people may be able to see what you say here, so stop being an a**. and he's like: nope.
C Bags are looking good. When healthy (big if), it will be tough to beat them in a 7 game series... unless Jimmy goes beast mode on them again
