Same as with monk/schroder, we can offer an exception with a PO, then move up to early bird. Still 77 games and playoffs left before we have to worry about it.
I thought there was too much smoke NOT to be fire, but he has been a very pleasant surprise so far. Hope it continues and expands. If so, steal of the century.
Even with the bad rebounding game against Orl,they have to start thinking about starting Wood with AD/Lebron. That will fix what the offenses are doing in terms of drawing AD out with the PNR screener and then having everyone crash the offensive glass. The other games he clearly helped on the glass and the extra rim protection is a godsend
I don't think we emphasize crashing the offensive boards. It seems like we prefer to get back on defense instead, which makes the weak transition D, a little puzzling.
Can't afford to try it until Hayes is recovered from his injury. So far it doesn't look like they prefer doing either and that level of laziness this early is very puzzling.
The biggest issue with starting Wood or Rui to me, is that a Lebron, Austin and D'Angelo trio, will be pretty weak on perimeter defense. It is what it is, our best players besides AD and Jarred, are offensive guys. We can absolutely overcome that, as long as those guys are making shots though. I think Vanderbilt and AD ultimately, would be the best compliment to James, Reaves and Russell. However if we aren't married to a D'Angelo and Austin backcourt, there are all kinds of lineup possibilities available.
sub .500 for this team is just unacceptable. The stars have been available. No excuses are acceptable or tolerable. If you think so, you're an enabler.
Thought the entire point of this was to have someone imitate AD's offensive production when he was out? 1 shot attempt. That's not going to work.
Rebounds and effort to a long way. No effort on the glass. Statues play better D. He got cooked out there, as did all but one Laker (Rui). But *this* was the reason to get him and he was pathetic.
Shrug..He had 4 rebounds in 20 mins..with some ticky tack foul calls thrown in between. We had more pressing issues than Wood in this one. Like...keeping the ball handlers out of the lane..sometimes..or any time?
Well when you see an awful defensive center, you know it's open season and you're going to attack. So that is a Wood issue. I've said he's looked better than expected next to AD defensively, but as the sole last line of defense...well, it's just a reminder of why it's never worked anywhere else for him.
If you didn't notice the Rockets guards, in the paint at will, all night, it's a pointless conversation. Of course Wood works better with AD..he's a PF too.
