Curry shot 32% in the summer league when he was drafted
Giannis averaged 6.8pts in 41%FG in the first season

I don't get why you're so certain of JHS value after a summer league and 3 preseason games.

This is what I mean in terms of minimizing this. These are his overall shooting numbers and not just jumpshots (i.e. shooter vs scorer). He's been bad across the board. There is not an area of strength for him at this point whether it's the 3 points, pull-up, or finishing. Take Whitmore out of the equation as I think this has become bit of a smoke screen on how bad his shooting overall for him has been

Who said anything in terms of certain of his value - he's very young. What I'm certain of is the uncertainty of whether he'll be a starting level player in the NBA. I

What I focus on is with young guys is what stand out for him and right now in terms anything to do with putting the ball in the bucket, it's bad across the board.
A guy like Giannis who is 6'11 foot and a freak athlete is more like Whitmore where you're like let's see what this guy can do as his game grows into the body and i couldn't find any Curry summer league stats but did he shoot that bad in preseason as well? Couldn't find the numbers - his numbers as a rookie were very good though. Curry's jumper always looked amazing : does JHS have something that truly stands out like - not particularly.

He's got a lot of work today not only on his jumper but finishing, getting the midrange numbers a lot higher (he needs to be at Booker/Tony Parker range in terms of efficiency to make that work). Can he do it sure but at this point who knows it a long road for him IMO.

yes. he's been bad across the board in a tiny sample of games. his teammates and coaches claim he looked good in practice. you could hold off on doomsdaying, or you could make pretty strong proclamations right now. i know which one i'd choose.

That's big to me as well here. I think the praise from his practices is a good sign.

There were several guys I was interested in at that spot who were either already gone or we just passed on. The staff has a method they used to evaluate guys and there's been enough hits for me to trust their instincts.

Drafts are always a crap shoot though so there will be misses. Just how it goes.

I just feel like if Whitemore wasn't so high on the mock drafts this wouldn't be getting that much conversation right now. Clearly teams did not have him ranked as highly as the draft gurus and there has to be a reason for that.

I'll just repeat that its much better for a guy with red flags to go to a team like Houston and work through his issues than come here and have literally everything you do (like LeBron eating on the sideline of a preseason game) become front page news. Like, I actually like Emoni Bates and hope he can turn things around but knew there was no way we would take him given his history and completely understand that decision.

Bottom line, everyone relax and cut JHS some slack at least for now.

Regarding Whitmore, I will always come back to the Warriors and Heat also skipped on him.

basically half the league did, in all honesty. there were only a few guys that were considered no-brainers ahead of him leading up to the draft, and something happened that spooked almost everyone. you know, except the team that had already taken on kevin porter jr.

I have this crazy theory to throw out here. I know it's wild but just try an open mind with it. ;)

If say .... JHS had shot 45-50% from the floor and 35% from deep in the pre-season games he played .... the guy wouldn't be getting killed for looking like he's "good" at nothing from so many on the internets? The variety of skills seems a LOT more evident, say .... in highlight clips where he doesn't miss? ;)

Yeah, this kid needs to go play in G League and have time to develop. If there is benefit to having him around the pros to get a glimpse of what it's going to take to be successful, I'm all for it.

Internet future Hall of Famer CAM WHITMORE had a dominant first game of his illustrious NBA career tonight: 10 minutes / 0-4 / 0 points / 0 assists / 1 rebound.
