This is going to be a good and bad season for those of us that like AD. The good far outweighs the bad. The good is he will lead us to a championship and reclaim a top three place among players. The bad is that all of his off-season work is going to really highlight the lack of it the past few off-season and justify the criticism...lol.

The perimeter shot is looking nicer, and most importantly he’s looking confident in it. When you have a player of his caliber and size just being capable of hitting the 3, it’s almost a cheat code.

If he can average 33%+ from three and this team is healthy, nobody is beating us.

Hopefully this early preseason performance is a sign of things to come

really like the sequence in the 2nd where AD quietly disrupted a whole offensive possession with quick read and react helping in unusual situations, cleared the defensive rebound, pushed, and when the guard tried to harass his dribble (smart move by the guard), he held it, got it to lebron and went immediately to the post and drew fts. basically zero other nba players can do all of those things.

As @Helljumper said, confidence. Looks better from 3 than he did at any point last year.

it's funny that the narrative on his shooting was that it was terrible last year, when it was really just terrible from three, and his attempts were low (probably, intelligently, related).

glad that he's taking a lot on trails and from the corner so far. these are better attempts for him. i'm not a real believer in AD the long range shooter, but if he can hit 1/3 per game, i think it opens other things up for him and others.

Yeah, I don't think there's a magic number of attempts. I know Vogel had a target attempts for him, I think he just needs to take the ones he's confident in within the flow of the game. If that's 2 one night and five the next, I'm OK with that. Just be smart with it and decide if that's the best shot for himself and the team in that moment. If he's missed three straight and the D is sagging off, I probably don't press the luck on number 4. If can get to 33% (he's only done that 3x in his career), that's huge.

AD is smart enough to know when he should shoot. Another example of Hambone being better off keeping his thoughts to himself.

i still think the sequence i described was more impressive, but this one is, too.

i...just don't get it. he's an elite option from 18ft and in on pick and rolls and face up isos/post ups. i'm ok with him sprinkling some threes in, but 6 per game is a ton. everyone near that number last year was a guard or small forward. and the only ones who shot 33% or less at that volume were the likes of keldon johnson, rj barrett, kelly oubre...lebron james...etc.

we don't need to have two guys hoisting 6 threes at sub 33% when both guys could put up an insane efg% if they set up shop at the elbow and cooked.

So, that's 12 threes a game between him and Bron? Fun times. It's not like we have guys like Dlo, Reaves, Gabe etc. who can shoot it.

Yeah, I really don't understand this. Don't we want to spread the floor FOR AD to attack? I may not agree with this in theory, but clearly Ham has earned some leeway on decisions. His regular season decisions were a little mind boggling, but the playoffs were overall pretty tight. I'm still a little confused by that truthfully. It's like he was forced to listen to his assistants or the front office or something.
