Whoo boy, this could go really well or it could go very badly, medium risk high reward I guess. This season isn’t going to be boring that’s for sure.

Been saying it all summer, think this is an excellent low risk high reward pickup! He has his flaws, but I’m going to be optimistic that a change of scenery, Ham’s coaching staff, and the need to prove himself to the league, will all help mitigate his defensive issues. Meanwhile offensively, his ability to space the floor next to AD will give us a new dynamic. Any way you cut it, he is amazing value for the minimum IMO

At least we have a scoring big when AD gets his monthly ailment… he might be benched by Ham for his terrible defense though

I’m hoping a summer of humble pie sparked a maturity fire under his butt. He has all the talent in the world, just needs to embrace a role of playing within the offense and playing adequate defense. Do this and he earns a bigger contract next year. I’m skeptical but very excited by this signing. Be another monk, please!

Ugh. Just please don't f*** this up, CW.

At least we added a big.

Rob refuses to give me an entire roster I can like.

Great pickup. Lakers address their biggest weakness with a guy who is a legit NBA starter quality player and who adds an element that they haven't really had before. If Lebron can pull the Jedi mind trick he's done with guys like Dwight and JR Smith the Lakers pickup a guy who the other team has to actually gameplan for.

Off-season goes from good to very good. Great is getting a guy like AD so not clearly not there but with this new salary cap Lakers are killing it. AD plus Wood lineups are going to be awesome: porn movie length baby

Haven’t been this excited going into a season in a while. This could be a special year. I think we have the right pieces.

    I’m not happy about this.

I hope I’m wrong, but his attitude and lack of defense sound like poison for a team I envisioned winning it all.

    yup. i hate it

there's a reason he's bounced around the league so much. zero defense and he's as dumb as a brick bball IQ-wise. he can shoot the 3 but of course that likely won't happen here because shooting curse. and don't let those block numbers fool you, he's only blocking that many shots because he's always out of position. come playoff time he'll be unplayable because of how bad he is defensively. not to mention the rumors of him being a poor locker room presence

    this is basically trez 2.0

Do we have any roster spots left after the Wood signing?

Christian Wood puts up nice stats but there’s a real reason why he’s so bad at defense. It’s not just basketball IQ, but also his physical build.

He’s 6’10” 215lbs. He is too thin to guard legit centers, no matter what Lebron or Darvin say to him, he can just get bullied by centers with more size… which is basically all the centers.

guess I went have to go from , "No, don't take the chance" to "I'm hoping for the best, and since it's a minimum contract, if it doesn't work, it's not a big financial hit to cut him loose"

And hopefully if we cut him loose, it's so obvious in the pre-season that is when it happens

But I suppose since the 2nd yr is a player option, we probably have to pay for both years. Lovely. Hopefully the Lebron of Leaders can help turn this kid's career around.

Trez only made sense if AD shot the ball like he did during the bubble. Without that spacing a bad fit.

Wood is a great fit IMO. Spacing is what AD and Lebron need to operate. Wood can also finish inside and is a decent rebounder against smaller dudes so the Lakers can punish small lineups trying to chase him out to perimeter

He's not a great defender but next to AD I think he's a good fit. Lot of length and he can be given the easier defensive assignments and has AD to cover mistakes on swotches

Still don’t see LeBron guarding SFs in the name of having Wood in the starting lineup. :speechless:

We shall most definitely see, if any of that is accurate or not this season. Great pickup, the steal of Free Agency at that salary IMO.

A solid training camp with a lineup expert like Darvin Ham should provide everyone clarity after the first 40 games or so.

Hopefully some guys really separate themselves and make the choices obvious. But I do like that Ham can't possibly be running out 3 guard lineups this year with all of the length we have. It will be nice not to hear those complaints, but I'm sure we'll be hearing new ones.
