So .... what? If he's that good as Sabonis eventually, he's also bigger. That counts for nothing? Look I know you disagree with what I and some others see in him already, but with your constant and dismissive tone, it's like you don't see it at all. I'm concerned about locking him up for multiple years cost controlled and having him available at least for the playoffs. We'll find out this season.
I actually don't like much when AD brings the ball up, his dribbling is ok but his vision is not good. I think he wears glasses so maybe it's that. I know he was a point guard growing up but he doesn't seem trustable setting an offense Sabonis' vision is off the charts, don't think Colin will ever reach that level. He's also heavier, but I get the comparison. The thing with 7 footers is all about how good they are in defending smaller guards. That's what takes them out of the floor. Even if you have a max contract like Gobert. So hopefully he will start to develop that lateral quickness to be just good enough. 7 footers have such wide wingspans that they don't need to be elite at that department, just enough so you're not attacked every possession
Look at who's sitting at #4 among all Summer League players, just above a slightly more famous prospect at #5.
I’m not being dismissive, we got a great young big we can develop. He is on a two way contract so he is locked in - other teams can’t sign him away from us. As for cost controlling him, we could use the rest of our MLE for 4 years. But it would be below the minimum, not sure why anyone would do that? By doing so, we would also go into the luxury tax and not reset the repeater tax multiple we seem to have avoided. I dunno LT, Colin is doing great in summer league, but it’s summer league. Players like Wemby aren’t even going to try or play many minutes. If we hit training camp and Colin establishes himself above Hayes and the other big we bring in, then it’s time to get excited. Also, my comment about Sabonis, just because he is bigger doesn’t mean he will be anywhere near the calibre of player. We’re talking about an All Star level big. The chance of finding one of those undrafted is so low it’s a just a step or two away from impossible.
Come on man I respect your knowledge but you keep twisting what I’ve been saying. Where did I say because he’s bigger that’s my argument for him going to be as good or better? . And I was just responding to @showtime24 ’s finding someone to compare him to. And as far as your last sentence …. sure of course the “odds” are against it. But look here below whoever is ranking this tournament. If there was a similar ranking after 2 games for AR 2 years ago I guess we must have missed it. Regardless ….. what were the odds Steve Kerr would be calling him “one of the three top players on the Lakers” in his 2nd season? I said IF on the Sabonis comparison who’s been in the league 6 years.
With the Lakers follwing worldwide and @KareemtheGreat33 and @sirronstuff going the extra mile to make aware and educate on each season voting with live rallies in the Islands, plus all of those fans fervor and exposure to Austin in the coming games he will play for Team USA …. and his CERTAIN continued improvement on everything …. one of these years who thinks Austin Reaves (don’t forget China w/the voting) …. can’t become an all star? Let’s hear your argument that the “odds” are going to make that impossible. Only talking about Austin here. But I too will stand by what I’ve been saying …. that I believe Colin is in the same class of potential, all things considered, with skills already highly developed, both sides of the ball and IQ and great legs so far for his weight at 7% body fat.
I dunno …. this stuff should come about organically as his teammates will give him something. But of course it’s OK around his fans at times and hopefully we or some media person comes up with a better one and that’s in our CC gloss options as well. Certainly no fan came up with Tiny Dog for BI.
I was literally just asking how many undrafted big men have been All-Stars. I never said anything was impossible. The kid is definitely skilled, so who the hell knows.
LT I owe you an apology, I took your initial message wrong (it was late scrolling in bed for me). I read it as: he’s going to be as good as sabonis and bigger. I’m not trying to be a negative Nancy. I genuinely hope he gets to that level and I’ll be cheering him on the whole way. I don’t like setting large expectations on these young guys because it’s just a really, really, tough league. As an example Zubac was a great pick and is a rotation/starter level player in the league. I’d love Castle to get to that level one day, that would be a home run.
It’s a one in a million kind of outcome. Everyone else that made it from humble expectations was usually a second rounder.
I hear from several podcasts, recently Faigen, that this is not true, any team can offer him a regular NBA contract and we have to release him to whoever. it sucks if true
This website says the opposite: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2023/07...acts allow NBA,be poached by rival franchises. Looks like it's an update of the new CBA Also says if a team doesn't have 15-man roster (which we probably won't), 2-way players can play a combined total of 90 games. In any case, we have been proving that we are on top of these topics as an organisation and been trusting the scouting department, so if the coaching staff likes him he will stay in the team
