These comments prior to game 4 of overall summer league for Colin were in the Christie thread. I am putting them here for the receipts. Now that they've given Colin the green light to play like a heady Marc Gasol out there with his great passing and decision/play making, and put the ball on the floor better than Anthony Davis has been doing of late, and create some shots for himself ... he already looks like a vastly improved player just from game 1. He's better than a young Zubac in every way except strength (probably) at the same age, just needs to keep developing strength. He's not even a twig in his upper body on top of the solid legs. He's only carrying 7% body fat!
He has good hands, he can play high post make some sweet back door passes. If he can develop an outside shot, he could be a really good player.
Outside of our little community here Colin is getting some rave reviews. I miss the days of debating with realdeal, we didn't agree on much but he came at you with facts and solid basketball knowledge instead of repeating the same old tired arguments and gang mentality. LT and Real had some epic back and forths for the ages...lol.
Impressive player. I didn't know anything about him, I saw he has played lots of years between Michigan and Florida with interesting but not impressive numbers. But I appreciate the fact that he has always improved in terms of ppg, rpg and %s. He's earning a two-way contract? Maybe in the G League and with our development team..
I stand by what I said, I’d be shocked if he gets anything more than garbage minutes in the NBA this season. Not because he isn’t a good player but because the NBA is just tough and full of excellent players. I don’t even think he’ll get a guaranteed contract this year. As always I hope to be proven wrong.
If he doesn't get anything but garbage minutes we will have dropped the ball even worse than we did with Austin and Max. Fortunately Colin is good enough that he will be a great player regardless. Best scenario is for Rob to pull something off. Can't really have too many decent/good bigs but the good news is Castleton is already better than the free agents left. He sets better screens, especially up high, than anyone we have and keeps the offense flowing. For me it is refreshing to see a player of that size that has skills and isn't limited to just overpowering others with athleticism. This is what gives him the upper hand on most centers now and will allow him to have a long career. He looks like he went to the Norm Nixon School of Fundamentals.
Kid is looking very good, but let’s remember this is summer league. I see major potential for him to be a rotation NBA player, but he’s not a starter, not on a team with title hopes. He’s currently a foul machine because he attempts to block so many shots, and that was easier to do on college players. Summer league gives you 10 fouls, otherwise he’d have fouled out of some of these games, he’s got to clean that up. He does have really nice touch around the hoop, but a lot of his shots are also released pretty low and he’ll struggle with NBA length if he doesn’t adjust there too. Again, potential, could be another undrafted steal, but he will need time in the G-League. I do agree that I’d give him a real contract though, in addition to whoever we sign as a big with the 14th spot, then you have 4 bigs and you’re set.
Still haven’t seen much, but some of the comments here sound like me talking about reaves in his first summer league…
YEP. Except Colin looks bigger, thicker in the legs and way more skilled than most of the other bigs we’ve faced. So far.
Yeah he looks like a player. I think he can have a career like Zubac Don't mind him having some minutes when AD is out, to be honest. Him with Hayes, TT and LeBron can take the 5 when inevitably happens. Do it by committee instead of relying in 1 player to replace AD, which is an impossible task. We then have Rui, Reaves, Dlo, Gabe, Max, Reddish and Prince, many guys to step up so at the 5 we just someone solid. Having multiple guys can be an advantage to have them going in small runs and then close with whoever played better. I wonder if the time we are taking to get that 4th center isn't because of what Castleton is showing out. The best thing is that he's putting good numbers consistently Sent from my M2003J15SC using Tapatalk
Got to love the bring up the ball and initiate the offense stuff he can do: that's an interesting wrinkle that both Miami and Denver did with Bam and Jokic respectively. Wish AD would do more of this TBH
