Not sure it's coming, at least in this one. Kerr was asked about it at the half and said it was being officiated well and was all on them.
I think the discourse around this game is going to focus on the Warriors comeback, Poole’s last shot, and the free throw discrepancy. But what will go under the radar is how we pretty much dominated the entire second half until the last 4 minutes. I was not stressed at all. We answered every push they had, and they simply could not stop our offense. Of course then they went ballistics and almost won the game and gave me a heart attack in the process, so it’s good to have that reality check and get reminded why we should never feel too comfortable against this Warriors team. But I feel like if Ham just managed the rotations a bit tighter so that the guys had more gas in the tank at the end, this would have been a much more authoritative win. That gives me a lot of hope for this series going forward
Yeah. Threes. He’s like 6 for 43 now in these playoffs. I don’t care what your name is. That is just stupid basketball.
Game 1 and game of runs. Man, when GSW goes into a scoring flurry it's quick, relentless. 5:58 left in the game: Dennis hits Lebron who pulls up for a 19 foot jumper to put us up by 14. Speaking for myself, I thought, "We gonna git this one!" Lakers 112, GSW 98. We stayed at 112 for the next 4 mins and 20 secs, while GSW ties it at 112 with a Curry 3. Now only 1:38 left and whole new game. But GSW wouldn't score another point, while we tacked on 5. Took the punch, got up, punched back, won. Man alive!
I figured the Warriors had one more flurry and sure enough they came all the way back. The team kept their heads though and pulled out a victory silencing that crowd.
gs got into transition to catch up. this was largely because we went away from what was working on offense. hopefully, we don't make that mistake again. we want to run when we can, but we REALLY don't want them to run. i like our chances in a slugfest. their three point attempts in the halfcourt were almost uniformly difficult. but when they got them off the break, they were layups. my main concern at the end was actually not even those, though--the last couple threes they missed came from them getting to the hoop and then throwing it back out to relocating shooters. hopefully, we attend to this in the film session, because it's a way for them to get threes in the halfcourt that they didn't try until very late in the game. it also counteracts AD's paint presence.
100% he needs to abandon it. I just don’t understand how Darvin Ham stating a fact that LeBron already knows is a good idea lol.
Good points. Just channel them into AD and then fall back to cover. But if everyone is playing great defense the reposition players would still be covered.
What a game to watch for any fan of basketball. Two conflicting styles of play and the refs letting them play for the most part. Like some others have pointed out, there was a weird sense of calm in the second half. The third quarter defense was amazing and we managed to pull away. A late flurry from the Warriors was expected and we weathered that well. Our defense is gelling and its starting to give me flashbacks to the recent championship run where we make our mark in the second halves.
I don't think is quite right, the GS run was a combination of three things IMO 1) AD/lebron looked gassed so they didn't have the energy to do that off ball action they had to AD rolling to the paint 2) They went to a zone which the Lakers didn't counter and led to some of those ill advised 3s by Lebron till Dlo bucket which was the go ahead and bucket. (D Lo also missed a WIDE OPEN 3 which was frustrating as he air balled that junk - 14-0 run would have ended right then and there) 3) Warriors went small without Looney/GP so they could only sag off Green instead of 2 guys ***(#4 was probably running Steph on ball rather then off ball) Ham countered by bring in Dlo for Vando to attack the zone - which did win the game but as noted D Lo bricked a wide wide open 3 which would have made his decision making better. Ham just needs to make sure he gets the big 2 more rest going forward and more solid counters to the zone and they should be fine. ***If steph is on ball, you attack him on defense even more, wear him the f*** out. lebron is the only old guy on the Lakers (step is 34, Klay and Green 32)
HAM WAS READY TO BLOCK POOLE LOL BUT IN REALITY HOW IS POOLE AIMING IF HE CANT SEE whatever it takes coach Lakers in 5 or 6
so...we went away from what was working on offense, and golden state got to get into early offense on the other end. yes. hopefully, we're ready for the zone going forward. when we got set up on defense, we generally did pretty well. that couldn't happen when they got several stops in a row, a few on long rebounds.
