Didn't think he'd leave to begin with, but I'd still take the meetings. You're not a highly sought after FA every day.
It's just smarter for athletes to take the longer contracts. You never know when an injury can hit you. Unless you're Lebron and want to get involved in the politics of a team.
I'm so glad that the Laker name's biggest value right now is leverage to get guys PAID by their current teams. "I want to go to the Lakers". "Here's $110 million dollars!!!". All we need now is for Durant and Westbrook to each sign huge extensions a year early in OKC and our being screwed for a decade will be complete.
I'd rather not want to hear this...scary. It seems like me may have to find that superstar with consistent trips to the lottery. But honestly, after having a reality check, I'm not surprised. Free Agents either want to get paid or a chance to win. Since we can't offer either, we are screwed. We are a team that won 21 games last season. People like to fall back on the Lakers brand and the weather and what not...but as a fact those FAs can get paid anywhere, so we can't outspend other teams. At the same time we don't even offer a chance to win right now. Can't be mad at players. Maybe after the cap goes up, the Lakers can start to use their financial prowess to lure high quality free agents and accumulate talent.
