Ha..Wenyen wasn't even a NBA caliber player this summer, according to some of the resident hoop experts around here.
Really appreciate Wenyen. I mentioned before I also want to test him on big SFs like Tatum or Kawhi. He has nice lateral movement and super long wingspan - it can’t be worse than our current option in Bev. If it works it gives us an option to play AD - Gabe - Lebron and hide Lebron defensively.
Yeah, he needs to play, he should not be the guy that gets squeezed out of the rotation. I like Bryant a lot, but he plays zero defense, he and Wenyen either need to split minutes, or if Bryant doesn’t have it offensively that game, play Wenyen more. Or, if it’s a night where Wenyen can’t stop fouling, play Bryant more. Neither are perfect players, so I don’t see why either would get automatic play over the other.
I agree with you Weezy. Gabriel is a pretty good defender, good rebounder, good PnR player and has hit some shots. It's really tough to make them interchangeable depending on who's hot or not on a night as that does them both a disservice. So my suggestion is that Rui plays the 3 and Gabriel comes in at the 4 with Bryant at the 5, with the aim of figuring out who has it going on and they get the bulk of the minutes in the second half. If only we could combine them into a single player haha.
it's tough because with rui in the mix, basically all pf minutes are eaten by him and lebron. so now you've got AD playing his 30-36 minutes at center, so bryant and gabriel really only have those 12-18 minutes to split. i get what ham's saying. good problem, bad for wenyen, who has just stepped up when needed and has been expanding his game, imo.
Gabriel does the little things which help you win whereas Bryant fills up the boxscore ...; Gabriel should play over Bryant , especially since AD returned
Can't blame one play usually but damn that stupid TO at the end of the 3rd quarter really swung momentum. You could totally feel it with the crowd: NO looked like they just didn't believe for sure til then
that and when the refs gifted alvarado fts on a completely wild heave. they happened close together, iirc, and they were the kinds of breaks you need to stop a ten-game losing streak. lebron letting nance outhustle for an offensive board around then was also just terrible. i'm pretty close to checking out.
Gabriel looked totally out of his league against the Grizz: JJJ went AD on him and they just outmuscled him all over the court
In the win against TOR, we only played 5 guys off the bench, and Wenyan was a +19, the worst +/- off the bench. Rui was a +21; AR was a +26, and Dennis was a +32. Is that an astoundingly good bench or am I dreaming? Probably both.
