If we miss out completely this year, I think we can throw 2 to 3 maxes next year. Is that right? So if we win 40-ish games by some miracle, maybe we can convince "friends" to come play in LA together. -_-

Yeah I'm not going to count on that. If we strike out on ALL the free agents we want, which is looking like a pretty good possibility... We've got to make changes in the FO. This is THE summer. I know it's only Day 1.25 of FA but our pool is shrinking rapidly. No FA this summer means very little shot at one next summer. That means Jim and Mitch's plan of being back on top in 3 years is about 2 years behind schedule.

We have to get someone to bite on that max offer. When did getting players to want to come to LA get so f***ing difficult?

We have max offers to throw around but if no one's biting.... It'll be harder to find a biter next year without having one this year. The cap goes up for everyone, not just us. Something has got to change.

You at least want to hear that LMA came away impressed but ultimately decided to pass, to hear we weren't impressive is not a good sign.

I think the strategy coming out the gates for the Lakers was flawed...again. They rolled out the red carpet to chase the big fish (Aldridge) when they don't have a roster ready for a player like that. They needed to make the mid-level guys their immediate priority and then build from there next year. That said, they are meeting with Monroe now (although Knicks already got their hooks in) and meet with Jordan later (again, unlikely to come to LAL despite how much sense it makes).

Spurs only have enough room to sign LMA right now. Hopefully SAS talks pay cut and it really turns him off to going there. If not, this a big blow to the Lakers rep around the league. A rep that has been going downhill for the past 3 years now.

Yeah my thing is if we went full court press on Aldridge and failed, it might not just be our tactic that's flawed but our pitch. That's three years running that our pitch hasn't cut it. Something's got to give if we can't even impress LaMarcus Aldridge.

Well, seems we're not getting LaMarcus Aldridge, but for now, I'll just say if that for any reason he doesn't sign with the Spurs, I'll laugh (even if he doesn't sign with us either).

all that's registered for me so far is Aldridge was unimpressed and we re-signed Sacre...depression is creeping in

Or maybe the 30-year old Texas native just wants a situation where he knows he can compete for titles right off the bat in his home state instead of putting faith in a young Lakers roster? I can easily build a case for the Lakers being the most attractive situation for him as a whole, but we were always playing from behind with Aldridge. Every FA is different. This doesn't condemn our current path as a franchise.

Hmmm.. did someone hit the panic button?? We are in a pretty good spot with our young guys. We are likely to get a hit but even if not it will be a much improved exciting season. We are on the way back, enjoy the ride.

I feel like he's somehow going back to Portland.

But man ... I think we should stop with all that legacy selling stuff. People these days aren't like Kobe etc. who really want to follow some greats. They want to have a lot of money and a good time regardless of where they are gonna play. Also LMA is a private guy. It's like impressing a farmer with lots of bling bling stuff.

So far except for the RFA and guys like Green, Dragic no one is signed anywhere. And are Manu and Tim playing for the Vet Min? Don't think so ...

LMA was leaving Portland because he felt they were too young and inexperienced. No way he jumps into a younger and more inexperienced team. It is the beauty of the FA hunt, you end up with who you get and move from there.

eh, screw 'em. not sure how you compete with kobe at 25 per while manu/td are both signing for the freaking vet min.

hope millsap chooses orlando; maybe the lakers can nab harris then.

This is what I want to know. Everyone is reporting the Spurs have max cap space, but in reality they only have enough space to get LMA and then they are capped out. You would have to think TD is getting 5 and Manu 4 at the very least. If they do play for the vet min, wow, Kobe looks pretty bad from the outside looking in. And that's just being honest.

That's well and good, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have left a good impression. I know it was only one report, but Woj is the best source out there. Even if we aren't his first choice, he should have left the meeting feeling like LA is a good fall back option, right?
