Just odd to me folks arent tanking as much I'd thought this year. A draft with two potential generational talents don't come around often

Yeah. I would also think more teams would be blowing things up.

i outlined this a few pages ago in the transactions thread maybe? but the race for wemby is pretty much over, as the bottom four teams in the league have already established themselves (det, hou, char, SA). the bottom 3 are the flat odds, so nobody can tank their way into that group at this point without losing like, all of their games. beyond that group, it doesn't pay much to move a couple spots up, in terms of lotto odds for those top spots. so you have this.

good news for us that charlotte and SA are still viable trade partners, and they shouldn't care at all about losing veteran talent because they're so far from being relevant. also, since bottom three is slightly better than 4th worst, maybe charlotte or SA pulls an extra tanky move! but any other talent sellers will be for strategic purposes. outside of charlotte and SA, you're looking for teams who could use some wiggle room under the tax or cap or have players they probably know they're not going to re-sign, etc. i think this is why trent comes up a lot.

It's definitely flattened but still significant percentage differences for teams like Washington and Indiana. Washingston is one spot away from getting a 9% bump for a top 4 picks and 2% for the the number overall.

It's these mid tier no hope for a title like this which is baffling (OKC is in this camp and Utah seems to be waiting way too long)

Out of respect to Russ we need to move him. IMO he’s been surprisingly better than I thought he’d be off the bench. At some point the franchise looks like A-holes for continually having him in trade talks. Move the guy already.

Agreed but it does take two to tango. We shall see what we are able to do at the deadline. This is the risk we took however, as you said, by not moving him this summer. I probably would have done either the Jazz trade or Indy trade then. Either one would have straightened out this unbalanced roster and led to more wins with a chance of contending. But that's hindsight at this point. The Indy trade particularly did seem like an overpay to me. I just wanted off of Russ and adding Hield and Turner could have really helped as would have Bogdanovich and Conley.

Let's see what Rob comes up with in the next several days. At least we tried with Kyrie. You can't say we didn't.

How do you even shoot 20% for three from the corner? I don't get it.

I get it. Believe me I do. Part of me wants to see LeGM, AD and Rob lie in the beds they made with this poorly thought out Russ trade. But the human part me wants to see Russ freed from the constant trade innuendo he has to deal with.

I get your sentiment too being a good human being about the situation with Russ. Just that everyone wants to screw us over for a pick just for starters to take away our problem.

i feel bad for russ because he's had to face his basketball mortality on the biggest stage and just gotten ripped for it at every turn. i wish he would have worked with vogel last year when the writing was on the wall, and i was mad at him about that. but he's been a pretty good soldier since then, and is by all accounts a good guy off the court. we're just a tough organization to be in when you're not delivering.

I don't think that was ever in question, really. Russ is a good guy. He loves the game, he works hard, he's passionate. Unfortunately, that does not translate into wins anymore. That's all there is to it.

Is our FO stupid enough to not trade Westbrook before the deadline..? We gain nothing by holding onto him.
At this point, I don't even care if we get another star out of the deal or even if we're able to make a trade that turns our Season around or not.. We have to turn that $47million into assets or we're going to be in even worse shape next year.

What if every last team wants a pick or to just give us a bunch of players we don’t want and whose salaries will be on our books? That’s what it’s sounded like since this time last year.

yeah, i couldn't have anticipated the market for russ staying this bad this long. it's nuts. and i'd rather just fold up shop than pay what teams have asked so far. still two more days...
