Yeah; I was looking at win projections with that team. Our SF position would be horrendous.

    Wins by Position
    PG 5.6
    SG 6.5
    SF 3.5
    PF 9.7
    C 10.5

Oof. Caron would push us up to 5.9. That's 39-41 wins (somewhat conservatively with the rooks).

As it stands the Clippers don't have the cap space to give him the max.

He'd be a good short term plug at the 3. Question is how much does he have left? Butler though hasn't seen much action the last few seasons.

He's their FA. They can re-sign him.

212 games, 5000 minutes over those three seasons.

    That's 67 games and 1700 minutes a season.

F***, the new CBA and birds rights confuses me. Somewhere in that there is a stipulation that prevents you from making roster changes and then using bird rights to go over the cap, right?

I'm no pro, but I do know that if you have played with a team for 3 seasons they have your "Bird Rights". It let's them go over the cap to keep you.

Every player has a cap hold until they're renounced. It seems that they have close to 60M in salary and 20M in holds, so they're already treated as over cap unless they renounce their FAs. They can sign Jordan up to a max deal even if it means going over cap.

T - thanks, yeah I get that, that's essentially what birds rights are besides the extra year and money. I know pre-2011 CBA you could make trades, sign a couple guys, and then the last thing you do is re-sign your Bird Rights player and go over the cap.

I could have sworn something about that process changed with the new CBA that didn't allow you to make those changes and still go over the cap to retain your guy.

25 per so he's still playing. Glad you're out there answering these ???'s. Butler is signed on can kick in 10 to 15 tops per game, heady play and calming locker room presence. 35 though... :wondering:

you can still do that; the rules haven't changed much in that regard. but to retain bird rights, there's a cap hold, so bird rights really only help an under the cap team if the FA is on a rookie deal (and was a late pick). this is why SA can make some hay this year, as kawhi's hold is much smaller than his market value. Houston tried to capitalize on this last year with parsons but misjudged his market...badly.

the new cba changed s&t rules in general (making them less player friendly, probably thanks to melo's exploitation of the loophole that allowed him go keep his cash and move to a big market) and especially for taxpayers, who I think are no longer eligible to receive players in s&t if it takes them past a certain salary point.

long story short, you can use bird rights to sign a guy over the cap, but say, Portland, can't go out and use their 48 million in cap space this summer, then re-sign Matthews and Aldridge, as to spend the money they'd have to renounce the bird rights to each (which would clear the cap holds).

and now I've managed to confuse myself.

Everyone is now reporting Jimmy will be apart of the meeting. I guess he found his spare ball cap or the bar closed early.

Cory Joseph was extended his QO by the Spurs. Add 5 million to the Spurs salary cap....

    Parker 13.4
    Splitter - 8.5
    Kawhi - 7.2
    Anderson - 1.1
    CoJo - 5.1
    7 cap holds - 3.5

    Total - 38.8 million

*If they manage to dump Diaw/Mills for peanuts - 28.9 million left to sign TD/Manu/Green/LMA
**With those guys still on the roster - 49.9 total salary cap.......~17 million left to sign TD/Manu/Green/LMA
***With Green's cap hold figured in - 57.5 total salary cap......10 million left to sign TD/Manu/LMA

Spurs always do a good job of finding role players and getting the most out of them but they really have to gut their team to sign LMA. If they can't fill the spots that Diaw/Green/Belineli/etc leave.... It's going to be a long season for them to try and rest their aging big three and staying in playoff contention.
