It's as if Rob was told we want a certain player on the Wizards, so he keeps grabbing them as opposed to asking what the guy's name is. (It rhymes with the outside of a banana)
"Look at this statistic. In 20-21 with Westbrook as our pg, 74% of Rui's 2-point fg's were assisted. For comparison in 2019-2020 62.9% of Rui's 2-point fg's were assisted. And last year 60.6% of Rui's 2-point fg's were assisted. This season only 52% of Rui's 2 points fg's are assisted. Meaning that not only is Rui having his best statistical season from the field (51.7% from the field is a career high) but he's doing by taking his man one-on-one. If we had a talented pg on the team that could generate easy buckets, Rui's numbers would look even better." Stolen from a Wizards forum. F them anyway...
His synergy defensive stats from 538 don't really stand out: this is where a guy his size and athleticism should stand out. He definitely looks the part but we'll see if the Lakers and Lebron/AD can get that to translate. It did work with guys like KCP, Kuzma who improved a lot on the "little things" like rebounding, defense, etc so hopefully there is enough time for that to happen.
Great trade even in the worse case that he leaves for nothing. It’s the kind of low risk high potential return we need. Rui can hit the corner three and score in transition and off the dribble. If they can raise his defensive effort he can be a big athletic body there.
Nice news to wake up to. Our friends and regular fair trading partner the Wizards came through for us again.
Great trade and I'm thrilled to have him here, especially considering we only had to trade Nunn and 2nds to get him. Fills the need of a big wing/PF. Knock down those corner threes, play some D and let's get winning Rui! No more 4 point guard lineups thank the heavens.
Well we need the size upgrade and Nunn was lost in translation from day one. I don't mind the trade at all.
I think what Zach is missing here is that the intention is to play him a lot of minutes at the 3 which Rui is perfectly capable of. Looking at the deal as a PF only, yeah, C+ fits because we have AD @ PF (especially with TB's emergence @ center) and we have Gabriel who has been fine there as well. But think of him as a SF and how he answers our huge need there and the deal is an A. Obviously he will play some 4 as well when needed but he's a tweener, and I suspect he's gonna get a lot of play at the 3 when we face big wings and Troy Brown can handle the smaller wings, Rui can play more 4 on those games. He completely fills a void and gives us more options for AD and LBJ too in terms of positions and rest.
Yup. The Athletic just reported that the expectation is Rui will start with LeBron and AD, which is what I was hoping for. Some of the better wing scorers will blow by him, but he has enough strength and athleticism to make it work with LeBron and AD next to him. Rui starting probably precludes Bryant from starting next to AD, so I'm not sure if Bryant will go back to just being the backup 5 and playing 15ish minutes per game. Maybe we try to get Bryant and AD some minutes together when we're playing smaller lineups with Brown or Reaves at the 3.
i like the stretching that zach (C Bags fan) harper is having to do on the grades here. "certainly this isn't how the wizards hoped it would go...what a great recovery!" "2nd rounders are valuable! jokic!" lol, cry more.
The kid has a thick body with some athleticism. I'm not all that focused on his 3pt shooting, he can score and a decent midrange scorer is never a bad thing to have. Great trade.
