my issue with every team but the spurs is that they have a young player and/or star at the pg spot. you don't bring russ in at big money in that situation, imo. we'll see. i think his rep is so damaged by the (legimitate) role he played in us becoming terrible that even gms that think he can work have to be very worried about selling it to fans. i guess okc would be the biggest "threat" in this regard, though, as they did like him there (not sure that's true about houston). but is russ going to accept a bench role? is he going to take a contract that makes him a trade chip (as short-term, large money deals will)?
It was pathetic how ineffective our six guards were at getting him the ball. With Bron out and DS being cold as ice, TB should have been the focal point of the offense for the starting unit. Instead he hit his average (17 points) and Nunn got up more shots than he did. Russ 21 shots Nunn 15 shots TB with 14 DS with 13 They didn't recognize position, angles, or mismatches. Out of them Russ did the best of finding him, tried to go to him his first play in the game (tried... kick ball). But even Russ missed some and only had 7 assists. When you should be spoon feeding TB, that's an easy double digit assist night.
noticed this as well TB was wide open at times and russ, nunn, and DS wouldn't even look his way. i mean, he still had a pretty damn good game despite that which shows just how good he is, but he needs lebron in there to be most effective
I haven't seen guards actively look off their big that much since Kobe and Shaq were beefing. TB had Murray on him and nothing. Clear dive path through the middle and nothing. Joker is trailing him by a good 5 feet because Joker isn't fleet footed and nothing. Wide open at 3. Nothing. Open mid range. Nothing. Open under the basket with hands up. Nothing. Instead the guards just swung it around the perimeter until someone was open for a 3 or the shot clock was winding down and a forced shot was required. It shouldn't take Bron on the court for TB to get the ball. Even if Bron isn't passing him the ball directly, he swings it to a guard and tells him what to do. What's the point of all these small guards if none of them can handle the simplest point guard duty of the evening?
Time for “brown stuff” on head request again for Ham for not seeing the same stupid play from his guards (and ripping them to fix it) while standing virtually at mid court as these guys do?
seriously get those guys in the film room ASAP because it was frustrating to watch him have so many opportunities and for the guards to just completely ignore it
Spurs talking to Rob about him now. Have no idea if it will have wheels. Rumor is SA wants a FRP to take back Russell. Silly, since he's expiring. As for other teams with money having young players at that position, I thought that Russ has now established that he is a good 6th man and a 6th man of the year type player is worth a bucket o' cash.
Slick, the point is Ham is standing there next to the court seeing his guards continually going away from an open, consistently scoring T. Bryant way more than they should and taking more shots than him when he’s been as hot as he has …. in that Denver game withe so many other “scorers” inactive …. and seemingly NOT correcting the situation with them doing it the whole game.
Ok..I didn't read above first. I'm all about feeding the young fella. Dennis was hunting his shot a bit. I'm all for TB getting off 20 plus shots myself.
probably the wrong thread for this, but where did you read we were talking with them? btw, if SA did russ for mcdermott/richardson, i think the salary absorption might actually drop us all the way below the luxury tax this year. i could see some pressure from the top to consider such a proposition. if you add nunn/jones/JTA on our side and poeltl on theirs i think it also gets us under the tax...that one's worth a 1st to me. maybe a 1st and 2nds.
I didn't mark the source, I figured it would be everywhere and now I don't see anything about it so we'll have to file it under speculation for now I guess. The blurb was simply "Spurs are in tasks currently with Lakers re Westbrook". Matching money would definitely deplete the Spurs, we're talking Richarsdon, Mcdermott and more: Throw in Jones to offset the loss of a center. This adds about 7 million prorated to SA's salary this season but clears space for next season depending on what they do with Westbrook. Likewise, SA could attach another player to lessen or get rid of the burden of extra salary, Collins would do that perfectly. Spurs future FRPs are a little flakey, a lot depends on protections and swaps.
yeah, i've looked at them since the summer, lots of options there. wish they would have made a deal with us in august, tbh.
Welp...Porter Jr is done for the season. Good thing we " missed out" on him. https://www.nba.com/news/raptors-otto-porter-jr-left-foot-injury
