no. if he can play, you play him. you should have a better roster behind him so that when he misses games, we don't have to lose to literally everyone. everything always comes back to "shouldn't have traded for russ".

his value at this moment isn't super high. gs won't offer the above, for example. now two weeks ago, gs would have definitely offered that!

as i said right after the injury, if some very bad team who has no FA hopes wants to take a gamble, that's where you'll get your best package. but people have to understand that we bought a 26 year old perennial mvp candidate and we're selling nearly 30 year old guy who's missed the better part of what will be three consecutive seasons. you're not getting a bunch of unprotected picks and young players with upside. at best, it's one or the other. at best.

i think we don't move him for two reasons.

    1. as he just finished proving, he's better than almost everyone when healthy. same gamble the clippers take each year with kawhi, and i don't think they're wrong, tbh. you can't get someone that good who's available all the time. they are not on the market. giannis, luka, and jokic are all on long-term contracts.
    2. klutch. i find it hard to believe lebron or his agency wants us to move AD. lebron wants us to trade all future picks for some guys whose name he knows (derozan is my current guess) because he doesn't care if we're terrible for a decade after he leaves. hell, it would be BETTER for his legacy if we ARE terrible for a decade after he leaves.

AD won't be traded. You'll never get any where near the value he is worth so it's better to keep him.

The team would have to sell high when he's on one of those tears when he's healthy but when that happens everyone is thinking championship

It’s like the chicken and ball is a circle conundrum … which came first? Just keeps repeating.

Three years of injury sabotage should be enough to move on. The return has already been covered. He put a banner in the rafters. Time to move on and try and get a healthy team playing for 82 games and playoffs.

i'm fine with it either way. i see the logic on both sides. i think it's actually far from our biggest problem, though.

Serious, do the Lakers made the Russ trade if AD doesn't get two separate injuries in 2020-21? Let's assume all else equal, meaning an even more brutal 1st round exit... does that trade happen?

Why would it be an even more brutal 1st round exit if AD doesn’t get the 2 injuries? We roll Suns in 1st round and advance to toward possible championship without just the 2nd one. Question I think not phrased to what you’re asking?

if AD doesn't get hurt against phx, we probably lose in the finals to the bucks that year--though possibly not.

whether that prevents russ depends on what you think was the catalyst. if you believe it was bkn loading up, then it wouldn't have stopped it.

would've been a tough matchup against the clippers. but if lebron and AD had played like they did in the bubble, i think the lakers would have moved on to the finals. don't see them beating the bucks though

and yeah i also wonder if they still would have made a move for russ had the 20-21 team made a deep run. i lean towards yes because of brooklyn like you said

If he wins the second championship, and a finals MVP, sure. :)

    mixed emotions on my responses.

    1. bill walton was an outstanding basketball player.
    2. AD was much healthier, even if his career ends today.

Since the beginning of the 2019 season, Embiid has played 194 games while AD has played 163 games

They're not the same caliber of players but for comparison's sake, insert a Western Conference rival who has a well known injury riddled player and has missed a large chunk of time...say Michael Porter Jr. He has appeared in 144 games during the same time frame. AD's availability has not been a whole lot better.

We need to move on from AD quickly before his value tanks.

The trade deadline is February 9, which would be 23 games from now. If Lebron continues at the current pace he would break the scoring record 22 games from now. I hope Lebron breaks the scoring record sooner so that the Lakers can be realistic and start tanking and re-loading. Starting with trading AD

Feb. 9 we have a game at home vs Milwaukee.

I’m not trading AD if I’m the FO. We don’t even know how long he’ll be out, but it sounds like it will be a lot shorter than originally reported. Honestly I just don’t get it. Trade Bev, Nunn, Jones and Russ in that order. Put a contending team around Lebron and AD while you have them. You aren’t going to find a decent replacement for AD. You can definitely find some better players than Bev, Nunn and Jones and maybe multiple players who fit better than Russ.
