Keep grinding kid! He's young, talented, and so far, he's stepped right into the bright lights of Hollywood , and has upped his game. What more could we ask for? He's going to have some ups and downs, but we need to lock this kid up long term IMO. Reaves, Walker and Brown are a nice young core of rotation pieces. If Troy continues to perform, we should use some of that cap space next summer to keep these guys together for at least another 3 seasons. If Thomas Bryant can show some similar signs, Rob would have hit paydirt, on acquiring us some young quality rotation players.
Why does he have to be gone? We have enough expiring contracts to keep all of them, and the bird rights on Russ or whoever we trade him for. We don't have to lose any of them. As matter of fact, it's best to lock em up while they can still be had for decent money. I believe the salary cap goes up around 25-30 million next season.
Really he's getting more minutes than with the Spurs is the main thing, his blocks are up and I think he is playing a bit better D overall (I only watched him play maybe 4 times or so with the Sputs) but if you per 36 his stats they are in line with previous years, he's just playing more minutes and I think the extra playtime and trust from coach Ham has energized his game on the defensive end. I am a lot less mad at Rob right now about the spending of the MLE
cap goes up about 10 million, i think, to 134 (projected). we only have 97ish committed right now, so we could easily split some of that up to keep our favorites this summer. or we could operate over the cap depending on how the russ situation pans out. if he's good as a sixth man, we can extend prior to FA and keep all our holds on bevs/nunn/walker, etc. if we trade him, it will depend on the return. for example, the SA trade leaves us with 20 million to play with in FA.
If Walker continues to play like this, he's a keeper for sure. Decent defender, excellent scorer, very athletic, 23 years old... that's a good investment. He and Reaves are some of the players I am really excited to see in P&G this year.
How does this look numbers wise, if we got Turner for Bev and Nunn? The thing that confuses me about Bird, is that I understand, that you can go over the cap to keep one, but does their cap figure limit your FA available cash before you resign them?
Yeah this is why I don't understand all the doom and gloom about not being able to hang onto some of these FA young guys if we're smart and not go blowing it all on chasing a third super star. I guess that's the fear, not being smart. But I think Rob and the basketball evaluation process from the front office collaborations that factors heavily in these decisions is smarter than many here give credit for. The Russ trade and inability from random injuries last 2 seasons of AD and LeBron to stay on the floor has just invited so much piling on.
yeah, i don't want to tempt fate, but i actually have some faith that if we can keep the principals healthy, we have lots of good options in the offseason--and they're beyond what the media is speculating (blowing it all on one player).
Burying those threes, so good to see, love when he rises above everyone else to finish a layup as well.
Finally some actual NBA players to add to the line up. Schroeder and Bryant at least are competent Lonnie rocks! He and HBK are a reason to watch this crap team
I like the young guys, Reaves, Christie, Lonnie, Brown Jr and Bryant. Hopefully they stick and make up some of the rotation moving forward.
