saw his wingspan as 7'1" and standing reach at 9'1". he's not as heavy as green, but he's faster. doesn't have near the hoop iq--which isn't fair to compare, really, as that's green's major attribute. but yeah, we can definitely play him at center against a lot of second units. his play is helping offset some uneven play from our two center signings.
I think he can get some small ball 5 minutes. But I don't like him going against a starting C that's bigger, like Ayton. I think that's a bad matchup for him.
i wonder if him being a smallball 5 had something to do with us choosing swider and pippen over huff for a two-way contract. i've struggled to figure that out for a while, but if you think the team already has 4 guys who can play center, maybe you look elsewhere for those spots. anyway, gabriel needs to work on his fts. he's doing a good job getting to the basket on offense and drawing fouls, but...
He had a fantastic game. Thrown in against Gobert and fought like hell all night. Protected the rim, boxed out, cut for layups, great stuff.
That is why he should be starting instead of Jones. He can catch the ball and make shots in close. Perplexing we don't use him more. With Jones and Beverly we are really handicapping ourselves.
I like this kid, he's long, mobile, has a pretty solid handle for a guy his size on drives into the paint, and can handle his own defensively for decent stretches, against opposing 4/5 on most nights. There is a lot to like here for a 20 minute big that can play with another big, or as a small ball 5. We've had Wenyen on Gobert and KAT, then Jokic and Gordon in these last two games. He has a lot of versatility and defensive upside IMO. If he could hit a couple of jumpers now and then, he'd be my pick to start next to AD.
He's been solid for us. Love the energy and motor. BUT considering our off-season, the fact that he's our second best big man (I'm not counting Bron as a big man even though he's playing PF) is a problem.
Yah Jones has disappointed and Bryant wasn’t getting a lot of minutes in pre-season and now out a month or whatever.
Oh wow Wenyen sorry about that! You’ve actually been playing too well to have fallen onto the scrap heap of Page 2. Am starting to wonder if when Danny asked politely if in addition to THT for BevMo, if Rob would just consider giving him Stan too …. maybe he asked for either Stan OR Wenyan and Rob decided to keep the bigger guy?
15 points on 5-5 shooting, 7 boards, constant hustle and energy on both ends of the floor, so easy to root for.
Wenyen has put some more muscle on. Slick was right before the season …. he moves well and is getting better and is getting minutes and is playing well.
